I was looking for a washing reward in Tesco, I saw it there and it seemed appropriate. It's not a particularly amazing beer on the other hand, I'd liken it to Stella perhaps.

Matt, can you post up your wash routine so we know how you got the results.

Looks very nice

Ah'haa... I'm a Real Ale type of bloke!! I like a good Porter or Gut Rotter.... Might have a look at it though if it's easy (like lemonade) to drink!! :)

I'd take a bottle of hob goblin over that one any day of the week.

My method is very simple and all done by hand (no hose or jet wash)

1. Pre-wash with water and a small amount of car shampoo, getting rid of all if not most of the dust and grime, allowing the harder stuff (if there is any) to soak.

2. Wash fully top to bottom, ensuring the bodywork is clean and blemish/tar free.

3. Clean wheels, tires and calipers if I can reach.

4. Clean sills and surfaces with open doors (the parts hidden by doors being closed)

5. Rinse with clean water.

6. Chamois leather to dry.

7. Wax / Polish.

8. Dress tires and black plastics.

9. Rain-X windscreen.

On this occasion I also hoovered dusted and generally spruced the interior also.

Products used : Meguiars NXT generation car wash / NXT generation 2.0 car wax and polish / Autoglym back to black stuff / Rain-x

I'm no pro by a long shot but will be looking to getting some better detailing products in the new year as the weather improves. I like the Meguiars shampoo though as it cleans the paint but doesn't strip the wax so I've been building up my wax layer for the winter (by washing it every weekend with good weather until the weathers too bad to do so anymore)

Any recommendations and advice on improving my technique are welcome, apart from buy a jet wash. I like doing it by hand.

It's a shame the sun had hidden by the time I'd finished as the photo's don't really do it justice when it's gloomy. The rallye green paint loves the sun!

Not a bad routine. I've swapped the chamois for micro-fibre towels. Get a couple of them and use them to blot the car dry, rather than dragging them across the paintwork. The less movement across the paint (and this is particularly relevant to circular motions), the less chance of picking up dirt/grit and creating micro-scratches, or worse.

Also, if you are not using the two bucket method to wash, then I recommend that. One bucket for your car shampoo, one bucket for rinsing your dirty sponge after each panel. You'd be amazed how black that water can get sometimes, especially after doing wheels.

My old Focus after a polish and wax.
