1.2 tsi estate

Featured Replies

has anybody had a 1.2tsi se estate and wots its like might look at one next year

Not the same thing but I have just got a Seat Leon 1.2 Tsi 5dr and its a great engine very smooth and around 48 mpg

Someone on here tested a 1.2 hatch (I think) and was more than surprised how competent it was thinking it was the 1.4

Although im pretty familiar with the 1.2TSi in other smaller applications within the VAG group, I cant get my head around it being in an Octavia estate, at least not how Id be using it, fully loaded for family holidays six weeks of the year. I would however love to be proved wrong. I just think there comes a point where you push these little turbo engine too far and the result is either lack of longevity or increased running costs (running the small turbo's nuts off when something with a bigger capacity engine would sit more economically at speed, loaded up for instance. :)

When the Ford 3-pot is running 125PS (and drags a Mondeo about), the VAG 1.2 @ 105PS doesn't sounds too bad?

It's the downsizing trend - a 1.2 performing the same (probably better?) as a 1.6 did only 5 or 10 years ago.  Likewise the 1.4 gives numbers (on paper at least) that you'd expect from a 2.0 petrol 10 years ago - and no-one would have complained about a 2.0 Octavia then.  Don't forget the O3 weighs only slightly more than the current Fabia!

Car buyer recommended the 1.2 for the hatch but the 1.6tdi for the estate I think.

At work so can't really search but reviews from car buyer are on YouTube.

I totally get that but 4 passengers up and over 140kg in the boot... up inclines...  nah, I cant see it not struggling. Thats the point where I call 'too far' tbh. Then again, I think the 140ps 1.4TSi would probably be just enough in those circumstances. Maybe. :giggle:

I don't think you (or I) are the typical car buyer for this sort of vehicle.

90% of the time when there is one person in it it'll be fine.

The other 10% of the time it'll just be revved a bit more. :)

Took our Fabia MC 1.2 TSI 86 to Switzerland earlier this year and with two of us it wasn't too bad. However we noticed that the clutch plate was a little unhappy with 3 or 4 POB on the alpine climbs; it got a tad smelly :S

Generally the 1.2 TSI is a great motor but on just those odd occasions it can be out of it's depth compared to a larger output motor.

Oh if you live over in Europe then you can order a TSI 86 Octavia III, which could be even more interesting in the above situation :D

I bought a brand new Octavia hatch se 1.2. Tsi on 11 oct 13 after part exchanging my 45 years old 1.9 Tdi Audi A3. I can't tell you enough how good this little motor is. I was interested in 1.6 Tdi however when I test drove 1.2, I was blown away by the performance. I have driven upto isle of Skye which is 700 miles from my place and trust me the hills up there are quiet bad. I had 4 adults in the car with a boot full of luggage and it did not struggle at all. I achieved 64 MPG and so far I have done 4000 miles on it. My Citigroup has gone in for service and I was given an estate Octy 1.2 SE TSI for the weekend and believe me that car looks good. It has a massive boot and with 3 adults and half boot worth of luggage, the drive to Brighton (100 miles) was comfortable.

I would highly recommend this engine and the technology has gone far and these days the trend is to put small turbo engines with high mpgs for example Ford is about to launch Mondeo with a 3 cylinder 1.0 engine with 110 bhp.

5 YEARS OLD AUDI A3 1.9 TDI

NICE ONE!

Our 1.2TSI (105Bhp) had its first real journey a couple of weeks ago here in Germany, 2 People with luggage for week, about 150 mile journey each way, cruising on the autobahn reasonably flat at about 100 MPH (which is legal) just under  40 Mpg. Comfortable ride, not too noisy, not tiring.  Big test comes in March 4 people with luggage, roof box with skis etc, 1000 Km in a day, up and down hills about 50 pct of the time. Apart from the dealer we are happy with our purchase.

That sounds very good. 100mph trip with 40mpg must mean a low revving top gear! What's it doing at 70 or 80mph? :)

If you are careful with the gas pedal then you can get early 50s with 70mph...
