Finally Took The Plunge

Featured Replies

I have finally taken the plunge and purchased a 54 Plate Fabia VRS in Silver, collecting her on Thursday.

Nice, any plans for it or still undecided??

Nice one mate. Need to change your name now though ;)

Looks like a nice car mate! :)

Just bought 'freedom' so can change my username to something more appropriate.

In terms of plans, i'm still undecided at the moment, will be having a thorough browse of the forum posts to review the potential mods.

I'd recommend the elephant mod along with a clean of the egr as top of the list.

Probably been asked hundreds of times before, but what are the benefits of doing the EGR delete??

My car is standard but i mite consider it if it will help run better

Yeah im still running an EGR on my vrs. Any differences with on and off? or do you take it off so it just stops the turbo getting clogged full of gunk and oil?

It also removes juddering from low down, the car picks up much better and you gain a few extra mpg's. From my experience in a few turbo diesel cars.

Sounds like it mite be worth doing then, I never looked into it before, assumed it was something more suited to remapped and more tweaked cars

Will it throw up a light on the dash or anything??

It will do, but it wont harm the car driving with the light on. You need to get it mapped out.

I personally couldn't live with the lack of anti shudder valve so I put the egr valve back in (fully cleaned out) and blanked it underneath. So it's effectively the same the only difference being the flap gives a slight restriction.

It is mapped out so won't operate anyway.

What I mentioned isn't an EGR delete. It is to vent off the fumes that come from the crank case vent that would otherwise go back into the system.

I have my EGR still in place. I cleaned it and kept it.

Don't think a delete has ever been proven to improve BHP or MPG. In fact Ben @ Shark said it didn't matter either way.

I've taken my EGR valve out and replaced it with the Allard aluminium delete pipe. you will need to get it mapped out (£30ish) though as the Engine management light will come on otherwise. I haven't noticed any massive performance gain but it does drive smoothly and there's much less gunk in the pipes..

however there isn't any real need to take it out unless it's leaking or broken anyway, as Matt says, just cleaning it up is fine :)

It may also be worth checking for any leaks in your boost pipes, the stock seals aren't the best, and leaks result in power loss.

But you're negating the effects of the intercooler by having it running as initially you're nicely cooling down the air to a sexy cool temperature that's all dense with the cooler then simply nullifying its purpose by making the air hot again with the extreme temperature of the exhaust gas. EGR is bad in my eyes.

This is without an egr cooler mind, my engine doesn't have one but not sure about the PD130 variants?

Well Fabia collected at lunchtime today and a vast improvement on my last vehicle, well I suppose anything is an improvement on a Fiat Grande Punto.
