Dampers for H&R springs

Featured Replies

Lowering was a good idea right? Wrong! Lol.

After a couple of months of driving with standard shocks on H&R 40mm spring I think it's safe to take the ship off the sea! Looks great, ride is awful, don't think it helps running 18's on 35 profile tyres!

Can anyone recommend dampers that will match these spring? Ideally I would like adjustable ones to go a little lower.

Thanks

not sure about the H&R's... I have the eibachs that are well documented to pair with the bilstien dampers, but the eibachs (on my estate) only drop 20mm at the front and 15mm at the back.....

I asked AKS tuning about this when I bought my H&R Springs and Alex suggested the Bilstein B8 would be a good pairing,  have spoke to another Briskie member who's based near Manchester that has this combo on a Monte and is very happy.

I found little deterioration in ride quality on my Hatch with H&R Springs and Standard dampers, don't get me wrong the original ride was capable of crashing.

Did these go on at the same time as the wheels, my guess would be that the wheels are doing the most damage to the ride.

The B8 dampers are fixed but I'd go for them every time - http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/fabia-5j-07-dampers-c-1929_2922_3365.html?zenid=3b03e8cedd91d1bf2ec6defd59006bf6

Just to clarify which Bilstein dampers to use in different circumstances,I see B6 are the normal sport/uprated ones and B8 are shortened to use with low springs.

Which would be best to use with Eibach springs which only give a modest 20m drop?

Presume the b8's won't change the ride hight even tho there shorter dampers?

Cheapest price I've found for the b8's is around £450 which makes me wish I went for an adjustable coilover kit like an AP set :(

The B8's would work well with the springs you have ! The ride is smooth and not crashy - can be about bouncy when you're going down country roads in a spirited fashion but still good road holding.

I've had approx 15k miles on my set up, no nocking, squeaks or bangs from the suspension :)

Think this is a simple case of you get what you pay for.

iirc the AP coilovers at that price range would be height adjustable but I don't believe you would get much else to adjust.

The quality wouldn't compare to the Bilstein's and apart from the option to slam the car I don't see the benefit.  Given that people complain about crashy ride in Coilovers that cost twice the money of the AP's you can probably expect the experience to be less than comfortable.

When using with lowering springs I'd always go for the B8.

No the dampers won't change the height of the car.

If you're wanting to do that then it may be a better option to change to coilovers.

I had APs on my Octavia. I wouldn't do it again. Great on the roads in Germany terrible when I moved back to the UK. Go for the B8s. IMO they rode better than stock for comfort level

Thanks for everyone's input, think b8's are definitely the way forward :)
