New Car Protection

Featured Replies

I'm collecting my new vRS hatch on Friday which is very exciting. Just wanted people's thoughts on new car protection. I will only keep the car for two years so not sure it is worth the expense of autoglym lifeshine or professional detailing.

With a busy work and home life, it is most likely I will not be cleaning the car very often myself so is regular valeting the way forward?

Interested to hear your thoughts as I'm determined to keep my vRS looking good.

It's a waste of money mate. You could buy more or less the same stuff for £20 and apply it yourself. I have worked in the trade and sold loads of it too.

dont bother with the lifeshine.  get a professional detailer to work on it and it will look peachy and last you a good 12-18 months if you go for something like a ceramic coating.

have a look on http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ for recommended detailers in cheshire.

I've never paid for these detailing add ons either.     A new  car should be washed, polished and cleaned properly before it is delivered to you as a matter of course.

A new car shouldn't need polishing....

Well, buffed then so it looks like a nice shiny new car,

If you want it nice and shiny then don't let the dealers touch it!

Highlighted the operative word there.  Be amazed how many new cars come out the factory with sub standard paint finish. :)

Don't do it! Waste of money and actually makes the car harder to clean properly! Love laying down a nice layer of wax on a car and watching it sparkle!

Very conclusive, thanks! Will wash as much as I can then the local valet can do the occasional wax and polish!

it all depends on how it lands from the dealer really. you may get lucky and it will be swirl free but I doubt youll have the mirror finish that this golf got from the gti formums where he had a cquartz ceramic pro detail.

I did my own as Ive got a das polisher but if I didnt have the kit I'd certainly have considered it, especially if you were thinking of letting the dealer do a crap lifeshine for 300 smackers.

From the dealer, looks ok

Hi,

I did mine myself using Gtechniq C1 + EXO:

I did get a quote out of interest for in my opinion a very good pro to do it and I was quoted £360 for a new car detail. This included wheels sealed along with paintwork.

Rob

I've copied this link from elsewhere on this forum (apologies for stealing it) but I was amazed at the price and thought it would cement the above comments from all.

New car protection, professionally applied ceramic coating. Gonna be 300 quid though.

Autoglym is ****e.

Mine was GTechniq'd along with the EXO, carried out by my friend,(spotless) who did show me your pics Rob on D.W. Due to the dealer not touching the vehicle, it was pre rinsed, clayed, iron x'd. There's not a swirl or spider web on it. Fantastic.

Oh excellent glad to see it was a useful thread for people :).

Its the best way, the contamination on it was ridiculous but thats sorted. Hope your happy with yours

Yep, great car. Just a shame about the under bonnet sound proofing ! !

Is no-one at all impressed with auto glym?

I remember using super resin polish and high gloss protection a while ago. That was easy to apply and lasted ages. I got loads of comments about how good it looked. Surely this life shine is even better?

Oooo did he ask me about the sound proofing through detailing world?

Theres nothing wrong with Autoglym and it has its place :).

I had it on previous 3 vehicles and I'd have it again but I'd get it chucked in to the deal

The comments refer to autoglym's lifeshine and its application by the dealers for £300 who sometimes do a carp job using unskilled staff to do it.

If you want to do it yourself you can buy lifrshine off ebay. Personally I'd rather use an indy detailer than pay the dealer to treat my car.

Autoglym products are by and large good quality, not necessarily the best but still worth considering. ChisRS posted a long term wax test recently and autoglyms high dev wax was one of the best performers, still beading after 6 months

Thanks all. That's restored a little of my faith. Fascinating research about the longevity, thanks littleade.
