Camber & Stretch - my views

Featured Replies

Ok guys..... Not so much a question but i thought id gabber abit about my views and thought

None technical idiots views on how it acts

So.... On the rear i have -1.5 degrees of extra camber

Front rims - 8.5x18 = 215/40/18

Rear rims 9.5x18 = 225/40/18

Had my first real little drive about today

At first all fine and off i went

Then about minutes later the fact the rear felt abit tramline or skitty got my attention

Soooo...

With this i decideded the only answer was

"Sod it lets see if it real or fake"

The foot got heavier and off i went

On normal roads at lower speeds u do feel the back following and finding grooves ( could be tyres but hey they cant have the whole finger pointed lol )

As the foot got heavier and the hammer was down this reaction faded and and no flags were raised

Sweeping corners and large roundabout tho, very positive feel :)

My car remained going where i wanted

My tyres remained on

So all good

Then i ventures to the motorway......

Not horrible but not awesome :

Upto 60 fine pretty much

Increased and paced at ...... Ok say 70 :D

It didnt feel too planted but thats to be expected with even camber alone

But !!!

Under acceleration it all felt fine and dandy tbh

So with this i ventures off the motorway

More sweeping corners and again it felt very cool indeed

Bursts off go go also cool

A tad pull to the left means i will get my tracking done when at a happy height at the fancypants ststem at pro tyre ;)

Final verdicts

Normal driving in town - back feels funny but only feels

Normal corners - fine

Motorway cruising - meh not to fun tbh

Playfull town - fine and fun but a lil aware

Sweeping corners - sweet

Large roundabouts - sweet

Fast motorway - meh not as fun as it sounds

A pointless thread but i have noticed and heard camber becoming more of a intrest on here so hey

Maybe it will help

Looks funky but it does come at cost

The back also rides hard due to now NO give in the sidewall

So another factor that could add to playfulness

Interesting gabber! :D

What tyres notably go on 8.5j? Is it normally 225 or is that still a little stretch? Looking and getting some 8.5j wheels and wondering if tyres will sway straight over

225/40/18 on a 8.5 wont really be stretched mate

Even the 215 isnt that bad

Happy days. Don't really want any stretch to begin with.

Thanks

Not something I intend to experiment since I couldn't really give a rats arse what my car looks like... ;)

But very useful info all the same.

A useless comment I know, but at least it bumps it back to the top. :D

Not as useless as the thread :D

It may help someone 1day lol

Unlikely but u never know

Tbh Lloyd your stretch isnt bad.

I wonder why it feels funky on the motorway

Its all down to personal taste in the end, you've nodded your car your way to your tastes not anyone elses. And its a lovely motor

There are technical reasons why stretch is bad but iv got a beer going warm.

Get it all aligned on a hunter machine and then report back dude. Bigger wheels always tramline more, my vrs is horrible for it.

Its not bad bad

The camber will fook it

And its ze914s that have been mentioned to tramline

Stretch is only good for looking good :D

But i do like how it looks lol

Normal manufacturer tyre widths on an 8.5j is 245/255

My bmw runs 8.5j rears and comes as standard with 255's

Is it be bugger lol

Toyo and falken rate a 225/40/18 upto a 9j :D

Ooops

Yes thats the limit, but no manufacturer will sell a car with a 225 on a 9" wheel

  • Author

:D hehe

Yeah that would fly well lol

Worth a thought bud, the falken ze914 got abit of rep for tramlining which mite not help

Just thought id write up my thoughts .....

About what i did to the octy :D
