GFWC Fabia estate / combi

Featured Replies

Thought I'd start one of these. Not much has gone on but, i've taken a lot of photos of the small amount of progress.

I'll be uploading lots today hopefully.

Engine mods so far:

PD150 Injectors from a Golf GT TDI

PD150 Hybrid turbo

EGR Delete

MAF Delete

Modified larger air intake

Straight through and side exit exhaust (including decat)

Originally mapped by Revo when Standard, it's since been mapped by Ali at Unit18 after all of the above parts had been fitted.

My intention is to get it mapped again after fitting an FMIC by Faboka, and get launch control and a hard cut limiter, with the aim of reaching 200bhp.

Other mods:

Lowered on coilovers

VRS hubs and brakes all round

VRS wishbones, ARB, steering rack

2 sets of wheels - Ronal Ibiza sports 16" + Octavia Spiders 17"

VRS Steering wheel

VRS Door cards

Smoothed VRS front bumper

Colour coded fog surrounds

Debadge of "Fabia"

Alfa Romeo heated leather seats

Double Din touch screen head unit with DVD player etc

Sub and Amp in the boot

LED interior lights

LED number plate lights

Smoked front headlamps

Pressed metal number plates

This was my first Fabia which was a 1.4 MPI

I owned it for about a month and decided I wanted a TDI estate so I bought this

Then a lovely silver 1.9 TDI estate popped up and I decided to buy it. Went through a lot of hassle to go and pick it up but managed in the end.

Which then left me with two estates, so I sold the red one :)

Oh dear. Wonder how long until you get pulled up by the police for the noise....?

Oh dear. Wonder how long until you get pulled up by the police for the noise....?

you'd be surprised, it's actually not that loud at all.

Not wanting to be a killjoy btw; there was another thread this week about just his subject.

As a retired police sgt, I can relate to this, and without going into it in depth you just need to be careful as the police can easily issue a S59 notice etc. there's no need for a drive-by noise meter, it's the police officers opinion.

I can't count the number of times I issued them, or had cars seized, although to be fair it was aimed at, and usually dealt with, the 'boy racers', who by the very definition of S59, caused annoyance due to the noise they caused (also very useful with the idiots playing monstrous stereos in town centre car parks!)

I'm not suggesting you are in any way liable to do this, but just beware, as the law is there for a reason; it's amazing how many people bleat when they are stopped and reported (see the other thread!)

Nice looking car by the way!!! M

I've got a straight through decat exhaust on mine and unless it's on full boost above 2500 rpm it's not really that loud so I doubt they would bother with mine unless they can make you do a wide open throttle run type thing which I doubt as in that case you could argue that my brother in laws civic type r is too loud when in vtec with the induction kit. I think the loud exhaust thing is for petrol corsa sheds type cars that are just noise no matter how you drive them

My system is quite quiet - but there is a whopping big silencer in it to kill the "normal" noise, but doesn't hold back when on full power. :D   3" right through until near the end I think.  Big enough. :D

These are the remains of all of the standard parts, apart from the spare VRS calipers

after the coilovers etc had been swapped.

SO much weight!

Got hold of a sub and amp at an excellent price, so then bought the Symphony amplifier adapter cable which enables you to use an amp on the standard stereo.

9333518386_57cf74238a_b.jpg

The sound was terrible, the bass was either on or off and it didnt matter what you did to adjust it so i then bought an after market cd player that i could plug my phone into and also run a sub.
The difference in sound quality was astronomical.

I didnt want to change it, because i loved the OEM look, but I love music, and it has to be good quality, and I just wasnt getting that from the symphony.

The next day I fitted the new headlamps because mine had become opaque

they have a light smoke tint film over the lense

I couldn't fit the VRS front bumper at this point because i got one in black, so it needed painting.

So i took it upon myself to tint my windows myself.

I've had a lot of practice on previous cars, so was pretty confident that I'd get them perfect.

So i gathered all of the things that i would need and headed into folkestone to an underground car park so that I could work in the dry and out of the wind.

I spent a couple hours doing it and am extremely pleased with the results

The car was getting absolutely filthy within minutes of dirivng it. So i made a plan

I wanted it to sound beefier, so I chopped off the rear silencer ... notice the soot after only a short trip down the road

11376796294_421f587d97_b.jpg
IMG_3376 by gfwc1, on Flickr

I drove the car around like this for about a week.
I then finished the plan by decatting the car, and making a side exit so the car didnt get ant soot on it from the exhaust
I did this by borrowing a friends ramp and welder.

I made the side exit using an old exhaust he had knocking about. Its not the best looking but it didnt cost me a penny to do. It needs a lick of paint

The best part about all of this is that i no longer get a single bit of soot from my exhaust onto my car! So so pleased about this.

Looks good mate, I saw you near tesco this morning. I was in my brothers estate. It looks great on the spiders :)
