New to all of this, please help if you can

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have just joined, new to all of this!

Wondered if anyone could help me at all? ...

The little black box that is on the top of the suspension turret on the left, when I turn my car off that box makes a noise like a bass guitar, any ideas? It also makes the same twanging noise when I rev my engine, only terms to be under load at the moment. It doesn't always do it, just very now and then. I believe it could be something to do with a vacuum? That's all I know.

Thanks

Joe

Thanks. I'm not sure if it's the vacuum box or wether it is just vibrations on the top of the suspension turret?

Yeah its the vacuum box, mine just started 'buzzing' one day after my journey to work (a few years back now).   When I turned the car off it remained 'buzzing' for about 10 secs and then went off.   Happened every time I switched car off.   After a few days I got cheesed off and took it to my dealer and he confirmed that I needed a new vacuum box - they replaced it (car was still under warranty @ the time) and it has never 'buzzed' since.

Maybe that is totally different to ur issue but it would appear similar..

Mine does the same, but not all the time.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but what does it actually do?

Also it looks fairly easy to replace, anyone done it themselves?

Also, does this do anything 'bad' to the engine with it being 'faulty' or?

Mine does it all the time, I wouldn't worry

Yep mine too. Most likely for a good six years at least. It hasn't blown up yet, it ain't gonna get touched. I thought it was just something the car did when switching the car off ? Sort of buzzes lower pitch and then rises in pitch then finally turns off.

I do suffer from automotive hypochondria but seriously in this case, ignore it.

Ah overlooked you are replacing it anyway. Right you are

Thanks for the comments guys!! The garage I bought it off are saying that it isn't there responsibility so I'm just going to replace it myself. I'd rather not have the noise as it does my head in lol.

This essentially routes, and controls boost and over boost kills turbos.
