blackline is going........

Featured Replies

In its place a standard spec 2.0 TDi 150 Elegance estate Mk3.

Be sad to see it go as its an excellent car and had been reliable but have nothing but praise for the MK3 having test driven it today. Thought i was going to be disappointed and end up keeping the BL but the new 150hp TDi engine is excellent (very punchy and willing to rev to 4.5k before running out of steam) and with the weight saving made on the O3 with the torsion beam rear suspension its no exageration to say its just as quick as a standard 170 CR vRS. Whilst it isnt quite as sharp on the regular suspension as the Mk2 vRS its ride is very compliant, will make an excellent mile muncher.

Going to be a few months until the new one turns up so going to enjoy my final fling with the BL.

did they give you a good trade in price?

what options did you go for?

I had a mk3 2.0 tdi 150 elegance hatch as a courtesy car on two occasions and covered over 170 miles in it and I thought it was a good car. Not really noticably slower than my BL and it hung on round the corners really well. I think that it could put its power down more effectivly as well (or it could have just been the fact that it has slightly less power). Overall I was very impressed with it.

I would also like to know how much you got for your BL as I've seen a Volvo that I rather like the look of and am currently trying to work out if I can afford it. If you don't want to say then no worries :)

Not 100% sure but was somewhere around mid 16k, reasonable bit of equity in it.

A Jan 13 registered 62 plate white DSG combi with 9.5k on the clock.

In no way to knock the MK2 but Skoda really have moved the game on with the MK3. Overall and this is just a personal feeling I feel the Mk3 2.0 TDi even in SE trim is nicer to drive and goes just as well as a diesel vRS. Something that really surprised me what how nice the gearshift was and how smooth and forgiving the clutch was also, absolutely no regrets going manual again.

New one is white, standard other than a spare wheel.

Agreed. There is also nothing in the power to weight ratios between the two cars, the extra 20hp in the Mk2 is mostly sapped by the additional 130kgs or so it has to drag around.

Id also bet theres little to tell between one of these and a MK3 vRS for the same reason.

Just driving the MK3 it was evident its carrying alot less baggage :-)

Cheers pipsyp. That will give me a ball-park figure to use and make my calculations a lot easier

Very welcome Stu

Enjoy your mk3 mate. I can fully understand why you've not gone down the (costly) mk3 vRS route. Out of interest have you driven any mk2 manuals as I've found the box/clutch combi on both my 1.4tsi and blackline one of the best bits on both cars, so was wondering ifyour comparison is more a dsg/manual one rather than directly between the mk2 &3?

Cheers
