Aftermarket amplifiers, speakers & subwoofer

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone!

I have a Skoda Octavia L&K (Laura, as its called in India, http://www.skoda-auto.co.in/models/Laura/Features).

The car comes with the Bolero HU, 10-Channel amplifier and 12 speakers.

I'm somehow not pleased with the sound quality and wish to install my existing aftermarket setup:

DLS CA-41 & CAD-15 amplifiers, Focal K2 power 165 KR2 speakers and Polk Audio MM series 1240 subwoofer.

I'm really confused on this:

1. Is this something advisable or a strong "no-no"?

2. The existing amplifier is a canbus based amp with can+ and can- connectors whereas the aftermarket amps dont have this.  How can I integrate the amplifier to the system?

3. How can I draw such high currents, directly from the battery?  the 4-channel amp requires 60amps max and the monoblock requires 160amps max.

Please share your experiences if anybody has done something similar.

Thanks,

NItin

If you are worried about drawing power from the battery get a better one.

You wont be able to integrate the amp using the canbus kit. You will need to use a line out converter to give you rca's to plug into the amp. I made a list in a similar thread in the audio section.

I would fit sound deadening aswell. Just bolting speakers in will not give you amasing sq. The install is more important than the kit used to an extent

You'll not be able to use any of the existing speaker wiring, and will have to rewire from scratch bypassing the canbus amp entirely.

Thanks for the replies! :-)

@ ryan-re:

1. If I use a higher capacity battery, will it upset the existing charging/electrical system in any manner?
2. From where may I draw the power wire for the amplifiers?  In a non-canbus vehicle, this is done by directly tapping from the battery +ve terminal which I'm not sure would be a good idea for a Skoda.

@ mannyo:

I do understand I cant integrate this to the canbus network, but have a fresh wiring, however, would this in any way adversely affect the vehicle electrical system, such as BCM, Can gateways or other control modules?

The local Skoda dealers tell me such an installation would end up damaging the electrical system in the long run - any truth in this?

regards,

Nitin
