Steering wheel sits slightly off centre to the right?

It's not by much but noticeable on most roads and to a lesser extent on others, could it due to road camber? Has anyone else noticed this? The car doesn't appear to pull once you let go of the wheel.

Hello VRDS30,

You don't say whether the wheel has always been slightly out of line since purchase in October 2013 or whether this has happened recently.

If it has always been out of line this may be due to the steering wheel having been originally fitted to the steering column splines incorrectly. I suspect this may be so as you mention that the car does not pull when you let go of the wheel. Had this on a VW Polo and it should have been picked up during PDI.

If it is not the misaligned steering wheel it could be road camber but this would not apply on say a flat car park. If you suspect that the tracking or front wheel alignment is out it would be worth getting an alignment check done. Just one other point, are the front tyres showing any sign of scrubbing or uneven wear?

Hope you get it resolved, these type of things can be a real niggle until they are sorted out.

Regards,

Mike.

This may not be the case as not all cars nowadays have splined shafts. Some just have an hexagonal shaft for example so the steering wheel rotates much further if you move it one position on the shaft.
