Have I got Winters or All-Season Tyres?!

Featured Replies

I picked WINTERS category when i bought them.

But apparently they have written on them

"All Weather"

Has the M&S letters

As well as the SNOWFLAKE symbol

So,

Are my tyres class as WINTERS?

Or

All season?

COLD WEATHER tyres?!!!!

Wot are they?

As per the details you have linked too, they are winter tyres. Cold weather = winter! Beneficial below 7 degrees and in snow. :)

& since the season is now officially 'Winter', but the weather might be the same as autumn or spring today and not actually 'Cold',

you are using them as 'All Season'.

If it rains, they will be your Wet Weather Tyres, etc

Thy cant be!

If u look at my last pic, there is a choice of:

Cold weather tyres

All season

Summer

Winter tyres

?!!!!!!

The most important thing is the mountain and snowflake logo. If it has that, they're fine and actually tested and certified for wintry conditions.

Nokian WR A3s are definately winter tyres.

+1

This symbol:

No symbol, not a winter tyre - simplez ;)

'Fake' symbols meant to confuse people - often found in ling-long 'winters'

Its not confusing at all. The manufacturer that makes them referes to them as winter tyres. THey carry the official M&S symbol on the sidewall meaning they are Winter tyres. The tread blocks and sipes design is a winter tyre design. They are winter tyres - perfect for cold weather use.

Specfically the M+S marking doesn't count in my book, seen it on ling-longs with above fake symbols

It can mean anything - ie the tyres made from Monkey + Sp**k

Like the CE symbol which supposedly mean an item has been tested for safety, has been co-opted to mean 'Chinese Export'

Yeah, the M+S marking is self certified by the manufacturer and can mean anything they want it to. Its commonly found on SUV summer tyres and mainly just means the tread pattern is open.

Like my 'Goodrides',  M+S marking,  great in warm weather on dry roads, not too bad in the wet,

you certainly do not want to use them across grass or on snow other than with lots and lots of care, and much slowness..

M+S - Open block tyre primarily for 4x4s, and has existed since at least the 1960s. Nothing to do with "Winter tyres".

Nothing to do with 4x4's really, i have been fitting M+S tyres since the days of Stirling Remoulds onto Volvo 343's,

many were in sizes for Light Commercial vans.

Common in small rim sizes to suit motorsport usage right back to the early 70's

Very common once 'Town & Countys' were no longer available, as were used on the rear of many cars & vans in winter.

and everyone has accepted the symbol and adopted it

Canadian's where thinking about winter tyre accreditation long before europe

Wot?!!!

U mean my so-called winters useless in snow?

Good for sub7 degrees thats it?

I am soooo confused now :-((((((

Why are you still so confused? They are optimised for cold weather use and are better suited to 7 degree or lower running. My WR A3's have taken me through road slush to deep snow off road in Austria, Switzerland and Southern Germany. They coped fine with no issues.

The WR A3 are excellent in snow going up and down hills.

You have nothing to worry about at all. I've run Nokian WR, WRg2 and WR A3 on the Octavia and not only do they work well on snow, but they don't feel dreadful on dry roads either.

Chan110,

 yours are fine,

just saying mine are not great, but they are great summer tyres for only £50, and marked M+S.

(Possibly suitable for trips to Marks & Spencers )

Because hearing the M&S is just a self-cert (can mean useless)

Plus some of us here saying useless in snow/grass?

But i guess the well-respected Nokians

Plus some of your endorsements have put my faith back into them...

...for now

Almost everything is hopeless on Grass or wet grass (green ice),  that was a Red Herring, sorry.
