wing mirror glass

Hi people

Some scroat has smashed my wing mirror,i've seen these on evilbay but don't really know what to do :wonder:  should i scape the old glass off and stick the new glass to the backing plate or do i need to take out the old mirror if so how? car  is a vrs mk1
