'Snowfoaming' - what do I need?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for some help here... I've never used Snowfoam but want to give it a try. The question is, just what (apart from the product itself) do I actually need to apply it to my car?

I have a Nilfisk washer and accessories (inc spray bottle) but do I need a special lance/wand and bottle/reservoir to use with Snowfoam? Will those items, if required fit my washer?

example here: http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&partNumber=021534

I never imagined washing a car could be so confusing!  :whew:

Thanks in advance, Glyn

The foamer bottle you have with that pressure washer will work but it wont be as good as a proper Autobrite Snow Foam Lance.  So I'd give it a whirl and see how you go before investing £40 or so on a pukka lance.  If you do buy a lance you'll just need to specify what make of pressure washer you have so you get the correct adapter.

I believe that you will require a proper Snow Foam lance this link http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/index.php/sale-items/mega-magifoam-hd-foam-lance-kit.html is one that many people use and report good things about and this particular offer represents very good value for money at the moment.

You will need to request the correct connector for your pressure washer from the drop down box and I believe that the Nilfisk item is listed.

Nice pressure washer.  As above something like the Autobrite lance is what you really need and AB Magifoam is no bad place to start with your foam chemical.

The big difference between the AB Lance and the one that is supplied with the Nilfisk will be the control and the foaming action.  You will be able to control foam mix concentration better allowing you to adapt your setting to best suit your snowfoam, you will also be able to adjust the sprayer mouth opening wider or closing to a fine fan spread, again giving you the ability to get the most out of your foam.

The construction on the good lances is such that they would last many many years if cared for so not a bad investment, and should you decide SF isn't for you they even have good resale on ebay.

Hi Glyn

I'm in exactly the same position as you, got the same deal on the same pressure washer and waiting delivery, just wondering did you order the lance and snow foam and are you happy with results ?

I have a lance for my nilfisk bought from clean your car. its good.

As an alternative there are many on ebay which are not as expensive. I use valet pro snowfoam which I find does a good job and again is cheaper than magifoam, but I couldn't say how the 2 compare as I've not used it myself.

Lance is here

Snowfoam here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Valetpro-PH-Neutral-Snow-Foam-5-litres-Detailing-/141052160033?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item20d75d2821

One thing I've noticed with the valet pro is it seperates in cold weather so you either need to keep it in the warm or give it a good shake first.

Which ever one you go for you only need 1" of snowfoam in the bottle, then top it up with warm water. Have fun!

Just to tease you guys a bit more, if your car is really dirty Chris recommended to me that a citrus pre cleaner is good to use before snowfoaming (with a jetwash off in between) but he said not to use it ever time.

You dilute as per the instructions and use a normal garden sprayer to apply it.

What ever you choose make sure it's ph neutral though as anything that is is 'wax friendly' otherwise it'll strip any wax you have on the car off.

Hi Bob,

I ordered the lance and 5 x bottles of Magifoam £50 deal. I waited about a week for it to arrive before phoning and pointing out that I'd actually paid £6.50 carriage! It arrived 2 days later.

I've used it on two occasions and have been very happy, the car is practically spotless and hardly needs shampooing afterwards.

Just experimenting to decide how little solution I can get away with putting into the bottle and still achieve a nice, rich foam.

Hi Glyn

Glad to hear your pleased, Homebase have just told me I will have to wait for the Nilfisk Centennial as they completely sold out but good news they will honor the price ( £68 ) as I ordered in the sale period, new stock coming shortly.

I will wait till arrival before ordering the lance and foam .

As you can see have been given quite a bit of good advice by members .(Thanks all )

That's a great price Bob. My other half bought our Nilfisk to replace a knackered Karcher. I was a bit sceptical at first until I used it,  much superior build quality too.

I have a Nilfisk

A far superior product in everyway to the Karchers I've had before

I have a Bosch that is on its last legs, had problems from new ,replaced once and still problems be glad to see back of it.

I have a Bosch...the cheapest they do. Its been fabulous. The previous one I had was also a Bosch but went to the tip because I couldn't, for the life of me, find anyone that could supply the `O` ring...and without that tiny part the whole machine was useless. Needless to say...with this new one, I bought a few spare O rings for it.

Regards

Mike.

I use elite car care for all my detailing products.

I have a nilfisk centennial washer with an elite snow foam lance and their own foam.

I add a couple of inches of foam, glug of shampoo and some citrus pre cleaner. Top up with warm water and shake.

Once you play with mix, nozzle gap and flow control I can get it so creamy that it dwells for 20 mins, takes the worst of the muck off and leaves it pretty clean after jetting off.

Makes interim washes a doddle !!!

Can you post pictures? Carfoam pictures are the best.

I'll be foaming the VRs when it arrives a week tomorrow so will get some shots. They always make me chuckle. Wife just calls me an idiot.

Can't beat a good snowfoam pic!...happy cleaning :)
