Featured Replies

Hi , looking in to replacing my conrods before my hybrid goes on any advise as to which ones are best and what size the wrist pins are 19 or 20 mm thanks

If block = 'auq' then wrist pin = '19mm'.

Who is supplying the hybrid?

Hi , looking in to replacing my conrods before my hybrid goes on any advise as to which ones are best and what size the wrist pins are 19 or 20 mm thanks

This might help you buddy:

150 BHP (VW Golf) years 98-2000 AGU = k03 turbo - cable throttle - large port head - non vvt - 20mm wrist pins - map to 200bhp internals capable of upto 350 with good smooth map

150 BHP 1.8T's - AUM - k03s turbo - dbw - small port head - vvt - 19mm wrist pins - map to 230 ish - internals capable up to 300bhp (but 280 is safer)

180 BHP 1.8T's(VRS / Audi TT 180 / Golf Anniversary) - AUQ - exactly the same as aum but with light factory map(30bhp). Will map to typically the same as above.

Audi TT / S3 lumps with 210/225 BHP...

APX - APY - AMK - BAM are all k04 210 / 225 motors some vvt some not, the k04 motors have slightly lower compression so can run more boost. They have  the 20mm wrist pins so can take up to 350bhp - all are small ports heads

Which hybrid you going for and who will be writing the maps?

The 'best' rods; will depend on your setup and what power you are aiming for. Sorry to parrot internet chat btw.

Where are you based?

Thnkyou bowders1 very helpfull, gslave im going for a bbt k280 i think as is getting very good results ,clive at cnt fitted one to a customers car with a base map and it pulled 313 bhp , i was going to get the k300 but i just think its too powerfull for my setup ,

1.8t auq standard internals ,forge 007,welly cooler, supersize tip ,100cel sports cat,non res stainless piper cat back exhaust, abd hard pipe intake ,irridum plugs, shark stage 1 then stage 2 map, fuel pump

I would like 300bhp but id be quite happy to run 280bhp so to get these figures id need a k280/300 both will pull past 300bhp which i will need rods for unless i fit the k280 and rein it in to 280 ish ban at shark is keen to custom map it for me on their dyno ,question is are the rods strong enough in standard form at 280 to be reliable ,ben has advised we will not be able to explore the full potential unless rods are changed ,also will need injectors and maf changed .

I would change them ive bust 2 rods in a auq at 275 bhp and bent one in a amk
