New Headunit Installed.

Featured Replies

After weeks of waiting for various bits to arrive in the post to make this possible. But finally after works stock take today I got round to fixing it all together.

This is my first ever aftermarket Headunit. And I was originally torn between three units, eventually opting for the Pioneer AppRadio 3 SPH-DA110. Found it for a good price of £299.99 @ Halfords.

It was pretty much plug and okay from the box but to get all the features working I had to buy an ISO to DIN Radio Ariel Adaptor (99p from eBay) & a Microbypass Parking Brake Override Module (£17.53 from eBay). I also had to get an Apple Lightening Digital AV Adaptor (£39 from Currys) to get my iPhone to mirror onto the Headunit screen.

I also bought a Dash Trim Panel from the Dealers which was around £6 give or take.

Very impressed with it. Mirrors my iphone 5 perfectly. Also has sat nav facility on it using my phones 3G signal.

Fitting was pretty simple. I'm not great with electrics and I managed to install it all myself including some wiring connections for the Microbypass Module. I did have to cut out the plastic section (pictured in the red circle below) to get the Headunit to sit in the dash properly and give the wiring some space.

I'd recommend this Headunit. It also works (cables included) with Andriod smart phones.

I've beem thinking of this once I get a bit of spare cash amd time lol

Let is know how you get on with it

whats one of those ?

whats one of those ?

It's a small electronic chip that bypasses the handbrake switch. So you can have video on the move. I only got it because without it I couldn't get any visual instructions from the sat nav, only audio instructions through the car speakers.

As much as I don't want to say it, I think they've had your pants down on that. You could have connected the brake wire of the head unit to an earth on the chassis and it would have done the same thing. Head unit looks good quality though.

I looked into this and saw that may have worked, but then saw somewhere else that pioneer had updated the firmware so it didn't work. I had read that the unit needs a pulse signal and by connecting to earth would have given a constant signal not the "pulse" that the system looks for?

Looks like a good set up, what are you going to do about your phone one it's connected, just leave it at the bottom (won't it move about and rattle) or get some sort of holder for it??

Do think i will need an ISO to Din Radio Ariel Adaptor if i am fitting this?? - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_869197_langId_-1_categoryId_165655

I know i will need the trim from Skoda

It's hard to say Harry. I can't seem to find a picture f the rear of that unit online to see what the Ariel connection is like.

Hmmm, My factory nav may be being removed for one of these.

Does it have DAB?

Not inbuilt but everything runs through the iPhone. It's a great unit tbf. I used it today to FaceTime my pal at work and he came up on the screen haha.

All apps run through the hdmi into the unit. As long as you have a decent 3G connection and unlimited data anything is possible.

I've also have YouTube working and live tv via the tv catch up app.

I've got TuneIn Radio, Sky Go & Flixster to test on it tomorrow.

If they all work I'll be able to watch films on Sky Go and Flixster, sports on Sky Go and all my other sky channels. Also TuneIn is digital afaik.

Curiosity got the better of me. I just went and checked the above. Flixster won't work due to "Contract Issues" and Sky Go won't work as video out isn't supported for the app. A little disappointing from Sky seeing as I'm paying £80 odd a month for their services.

I was speaking to a lorry driver a few months back who did something similar and had Sky working in his cab, I think he embedded a Nexus tablet into his dash

Would love to have done something like that if I knew how to lol

I've not done any research but it may be possible with a jail broken iPhone.
