Clear plastic in front of rear wheels

Featured Replies

On my VRS estate I have a clear plastic sticker section in front of the rear wheels on both sides. I am assuming it is packaging still left on the car. but before I try to remove it I thought I would check to see if anyone else had the same.

Could be stone chip protection, can't confirm from mine as it has not been build yet!!

its the stone chip prevention as above.  dont remove it :)

Why in front of the wheels though? Strange place no? I'll leave it on thanks!

its an area prone to chipping as the front wheels chuck back bits of the road surface or gravel.

of the car companies fitted mudguards as standard it probably wouldnt be needed

But it's in front of the rear wheels...

But it's in front of the rear wheels...

Like FTM said they're to prevent chipping from debris thrown up by the FRONT wheels.

Toyota have used this process for years, but does look a little odd first time you come across it.

If anyone asks its aerodynamics

with no mudguards on the rear the rear overhang is prone to chipping as well..but not as bad as therear wheels are nto driven...but yes its the front wheels chucking debris backwards and the shape of the arches. the Golf has much less pronounced rear arches and doesnt get the protection as far as I can tell

Porsche fit massive ones to 911's..

They used to be black:

But then they went clear:

THANKS

Do not remove. The MK II has this protection

Could you post a pic of it? I'm struggling to find those on my VRS.

Yep Mk2 has the same, as did my previous Fabia vRS estate.

You cant miss it, it's right infront of the rear wheel above the sill.

my Mk 1 Focus RS has this Armourfend protection applied by the factory at PDI

Mine has an annoying air bubble under it on one side. I'll have to get the hairdryer on it when SWMBO isn't looking and squeegee it out at some point when I can be bothered.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling
