Anyone one else on a service plan

Featured Replies

or am I the only mug ?

Service warning came up recently (long service interval) at 37,400 on my V6 combi and duly booked it in,

Rediculously cheap service and realise I am paying way over the odds as well as ...............

When I went to pick it up everything was fine (they had even replaced the front wiper blades at my request -  as part of the service plan), but was then told I was going to have to bring the car back in 4-6 weeks as the DSG gearbox oil needs replacing.

My polite enquiry as to why it wasn't done now, to save both them and especially me time, was met with, but it doesn't  need doing until 40K miles.  What the garage didn't get was the inconvenience in booking it in, getting the car to them, getting home whilst they have it for the day (oil will be hot, so need to wait for it to cool down), gettng back to pick it up etc.,

Shame because the rest of the experience was first class.

I don't think so, it seems reasonable if you do the mileage. I've only done 40K in 3 years so didn't make sense for me.

Agree with your point about DSG oil change, would have made sense for both you and them to change then ;)

Your initial "polite enquiry" should have turned into a firmer "now stop being so stupid, I'll wait here whilst you whip it back into the workshop and do it now" response.

Or they can collect the car from your home or place of work at their expense and return it to you when the work is complete - a service quite a few Skoda dealers now offer.

I have the 3-year service plan, which was "free" when I took out some finance on a 9-month old ex-demo car.  I kept the finance for 3 months before paying it all off early.  The arrangement fees + interest amounted to about £150, so it was worthwhile me doing it to get 3-years of servicing.  I did wonder what the catch was at the time, and why the garage was pushing it.  The sales guy made £50 and I figured I would save a lot more than that.
