She Who Must Be Obeyed..... it's a popular term on here as we're all henpecked (gets coat) Yes apparently the black hole is supposed to be very good, especially if you use a dual action polisher to work it. I'll be interested to know if theres a polish thats more suited to dark colours too. ChrisRS will probably tell us as he's a top detailer and always willing to help

I used to work for a large dealership with 6 different franchises but never used high quality polishes or waxes. But I want to maintain the shine and finish of the black magic paint

Most decent polishes applied my machine will bring out the lustre of the paint beneath. All you are doing is refining the surface of the clearcoat. :)

A good polish will shine the car up ready for some protection

As you possibly are well aware, the key to a nice looking and well protected paint finish is in the preparation prior to the sealer or Wax

Also it all depends on how often you wish to apply a protective LSP

If its not often, then a sealant will be best..Gtechnik C2v3 or Wolfs Body Wrap or Optimum Optiseal

If as often as 2 to 3 months, then a wax

Light coloured cars will look better visually than a dark one with a Sealant applied

I would recommend a wax on a dark coloured car if your willing to apply it every 2 months or so

There are MANY products out there...some better than others and some easy and hard to apply and buff off

In your case...I would get some Carlack 68 Nano Polish and top that with some Collinite. This will give you protection for about 4 months

Poorboys Black Hole is a Glaze and can be applied after polishing and prior to your LSP. Its primary use is the masking of fine scratches(swirls) and blinging up the paint surface...then wax on top to seal it in

Many thanks Chris. The paintwork is in excellent condition with very few marks and I wish to keep it that way. Could I go Carlack 68 then Poorboys Black Hole and finish with Collinite?

J3, I'd suggest if the paintwork is good without evidence of much swirling then the Poorboys isn't a necessary step as the Carlack is an AIO "all in one" product and will not just clean your paintwork but will lay down a very potent sealant.  The wax added on top is a sacrificial layer that will add to the warmth and depth of the finish.

Black Hole being a glaze would mostly be used to lay down fillers and mask imperfections which by the sounds of things you don't feel you have.  I am also not sure how it would work over the Carlack sealant.

It will work but not really necessary if it's in good nick

Carllack then Collinite would be perfect

Hi Chris,

Would you recommend a sealant or wax on a Race Blue car?

Cheers

Chris may correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of all these things are:

Glaze: These don't remove marks on the surface, but use fillers and oils to hide scratches or swirl marls and help to enhance the glossy finish . They provide very little or no protection against the elements, so if used alone will not last long.

Polish: Car polishes are gently abrasive substances which allow them to remove swirl marks and scratches. As well as getting rid of scratches, car polishes also lift contaminants and impurities off the vehicle, which allows the paint to shine.

Waxes: These normally contain natural waxes (usually carnauba) which seals the surface of the paint protecting it from the elements. They do not remove marks and scratches, but once removed by give a very good glossy finish.

Sealants: These do a very simular job as above, but are made from synthetic waxes and oils.

Hi Jim

Trust you're well mate

Spot on with all except that sealants don't contain waxes...they behave in a similar fashion, but synthetically and most with more durability
