Problems getting key cut.

Featured Replies

So decided to get a spare remote fob/key for my vrs last week .Because I already have a spare normal key which I got cut at timpsons and programmed myself I thought it would be straight forward .So ordered the right key off ebay and I got key through the post this morning. So I've tried three different keycutting places (including timpsons) today all refused to cut the key because it was off ebay and may break. So the last one I asked if he could replace the blade with a genuine blade which he said yes to but he wouldn't have any until friday. So i'm going back friday to get the genuine one fitted.Anybody else have problems getting keys cut? Also I don't think he believed me when I said I'd program the key myself lol.

I don't have any problems! It's what I do for a living! ;)

As for the Ebay keys breaking thing. It's actually the cutters that break, not the keys. I've cut a some Ebay blades & a few have been horrible to cut. They make an awful screeching noise & are really hard to cut. I've snapped a couple of my cutters which cost me £20 each. Then some just don't cut smoothly, metal is too soft & you can see it bubbling when cutting

On the other hand some have been totally fine. I tell customers who supply their won that if it's hard to cut i'll stop straight away & if they still want a key doing they'll have to buy 1 from me. I'd say that 1 in 5 actually end up having to get 1 from me because the blade they've provided has been crap

although only 1 in 20 customers supply their own anyways. I always plenty in stock so usually supply everything

Thats more or less what the last one said to me ebay keys were either to hard or to soft.Anyway all sorted now.
