automatic gear selector display on dash not working

Featured Replies

Hi just bought a fabia classic 1.4 16v auto. Its driving fine but the display on the dash for gear selection doesnt work? Is it meant to have one as it doesnt even look like one is supposed to be there? There is no selection light on the gear shift panel either, there is  only illumination when the sidelights are switched on. The hand book shows one on the dash but maybe as this is the cheaper model it may not have one. Can anybody help please? kind regards

Can't help much ,but mine,an Elegance model, has the dash display, black figures on a yellowish background. The display "opening" is obvious to the naked eye even when off, so you should be able to see if it's there.

The gear shift panel lights in "park" and "neutral" positions only.(lights off/ignition on)

No doubt the combined brains of this forum will come up with a conclusive answer for you.

No it won't have a great selector indicator on a mark 1 Fabia, only on a mark 2.

Not sure how it will show on an automatic though, certainly not on a manual.

Hi thanks for reply. I looked at dash with a bright torch with ignition off and i cant see any gear selector display only the warning lights that are there. Not many of them light up though as it is the basic model. Maybe there should be a light in the selector itself like on older cars? Does the selector come apart or is it a sealed unit? Any ideas guys?

Think I have explained it badly. What I meant is that there is a lit up display on the bottom of the instrumentation panel which shows the gear you have selected when you are driving. This has stopped working and now only shows black and yellow vertical lines.

Sorry I had a similar query posted and was responding to that please ignore previous posting by me here DUH
