I noticed recently my car sometimes takes a few more turns than normal to start and then tonight i got out the car and heard a ticking noise coming from the engine bay. Lifted up the bonnet and then there was another clicky tapping noise.

Just back from Skoda and had a mechanic look at it and i was saying about the engine failures on these engines etc and he was saying it's not coming from the left side, so the tensioners are out of question. He thinks it could maybe be a valve and was saying the fuel pump is on the right side and it could be that rattling but he had taken the cover off and was fiddling about but the fuel pump seemed fine but wasn't sure and it's booked in at the earliest which is the first week in Jan!

Anyone know what this could be as having to wait over 2 weeks will drive me crazy.

Sorry can't help but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that it's something simple and cheap to fix. Good luck and try and have a decent Christmas as there's nothing you can do about it-easy for me to say but if you let it get to you and it turns out to be something simple you'll have ruine your christmas for nothing. :thumbup:

I bought the car less than 2 months ago from Skoda and has a year warrenty so not really worrying as i won't be paying anything.

Where about's was the clicking noise coming from (I mean was it the right hand side)? And does it disappear when you rev the engine slightly?

Did it sound like this;

If so I've been told it is the charcoal canister and nothing to worry about, only done it once so far but car is running perfectly fine.

I think it may just be the normal ticking of the high pressure fuel pump operating. It's what differentiates the TSI and makes it a slightly more efficient engine than the earlier TFSI if I understand correctly.

Although not quite as loud as the video clip, first noticed mine when I test drove it with only 42 delivery miles. 12 months & 10k later no problems touch wood, still does it, most noticeable with engine idling.

That noise in the clip isn't there all the time. But yes I know what you mean about the normal ticking noise.

Yeah that's the exact noise! So it's that something that would get replaced as it sounds terrible?

Yeah from what i heard yesterday that clicking noise was coming and going on top of the other ticking noise.

Sounds a bit like a tappety Corsa but not as loud and as near a noticable.

My tsi has a noticeable ticking noise at idle though not as loud as the video clip above. 52k miles and it still seems to be ok.
