Can you not buy plug and play aftermarket DAB receivers now, I'm sure I've seen some somewhere.

I asked Skoda CS if you could activate the DAB on the Tech's Amundsen but they said it couldn't be done!

There's an OEM spec DAB receiver which you can buy and fit to Skoda Fabias which fits behind the head unit and works with all the existing controls and dash displays like Maxidot etc.

I think this is the link to it on FleaBay and I also think it can be ordered via a Skoda retailer as well but I don't know what the cost is.

RCD 310 will go straight in to a Fabia II facelift (2010 or later) -you will need an additional aerial for the DAB a windscreen stick on is easiest all though results can vary -you can replace the roof aerial, but that is expensive and more fiddly, pre facelift might have CAN problems and not work with the maxidot and power on/off functions may not work correctly.

There is a RNS 315 DAB, which will replace the Amundsen, but that will be expensive.

The AutoDAB stuff dictates that you MUST have a car with steering wheel remote controls in order to use it.

I've just noticed that when I was having a good look through the website so it'll be no good to us Tech owners especially.

You can get stand alone types for about £50-£60 that tune into an FM frequency on your headubit but I don't know what the sound quality's like.

Can you not stream Internet Radio via Bluetooth from a smartphone, I stream my normal music via Bluetooth but don't know if this can be done.

You can indeed stream via Bluetooth, however if you are using something like Tunein -you need a pretty good signal on your phone, I found it dropped off too much for me even on very low bit rate.

Any FM broadcasting units will loose a little quality and are prone to interference from local radio stations and other vehicles broadcasting -like lorries or other cars using similar tech. The line in is better for this. Personally I didn't get on with a Sonichi S1000 that I had as it was just too fiddly to mess about with on the move, but wouldn't be a problem if you only ever listen to one station.

I put a RCD 310 DAB in my Fabia and used a stick on windscreen aerial with very good results.

In my Mother's Fabia, I put in an RCD 310 DAB and changed the roof aerial to the proper VAG unit which also incorporates a GPS and Telephone antennae but cost about £90

I sent a quick email to the seller asking if this will work in the tech with the amundsen + with no steering wheel controls, I'll post back when I get a reply.

If considering a hideaway unit like AutoDAB speak to http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/  the sell these along with plenty of alternatives and are friendly and knowledgeable -they also offer a service on most products where you can try and return them if not suitable.

Thanks for the feedback, how hard is it find a 310 one with white background do you think?

Do you mean a black screen with white text -like the swing (the older ones were grey LCD with a blue backlight - the newer ones are LED) eBay is where I got the two that I bought -expect to pay between £90 and £150 for one. Make sure that the listing includes the security code.

As stated above you do need steering wheel controls for this system to work :-(

The keys will have to have red back lighting, but it doesn't look too bad, and yes the parking sensors should show on the display -they do on my mum's:
