well, that settles that. 

If i remove the oil filler cap when the engine is running, it makes the most horrible sound.

 

When I did it on someone elses car the other day, there was no difference. 

 

Im thinking I'll be needing a new engine soon :( 

 

I keep the oil topped up in it with 505.01 but i think it's suffered irreversible damage from starvation :(

it may run for years before dying .... if you think its a bit tappy cant you adjust/ shim the valves to reset the clearances

I've a '06 and the can just went in me at 120k, the cause was the wrong oil (none PD) which meant it ground down. The previous owner mustn't have been aware - doh! £700 later and I'm starting to get back in the road.

We couldn't work out what was causing the misfire and general sluggishness of the car and started to replace the cheaper suggestions.

I then spoke to my dad/dads mate garage and said I want the cam checking as I was becoming more and more convinced it was f'ed.

I also had a full service done whilst it was apart.

Yes, then in a separate incident my tensioner failed slipping the alt belt half off and I hadn't noticed. Whilst recovering from a very drunken night out, the wife was driving me across town and the belt shred.

What was the cost of getting just the camshaft replaced?

I watched a how to video in YouTube earlier, it was very clear, didn't seem that complicated at all, but can imagine would take a long time.

It was a cash job mate, 'all in' so I don't have a break down, sorry.

If i do get it changed. It might be something i have a go at. It doesn't look that tricky. just time consuming. 

The hardest part for me would be the timing probably.

 

It's that or a new engine. haha. pick them up for about 350-400 low mileage ones. Then just pop that straight in

New cam in yours would be way much less hassle thats if its even the issue

I need a new head gasket or just new head bolts also. 

I'm going to get the rocker cover off tomorrow mate and take some photos to upload on here and see what you all think, if it's worn or not.

This! If you plan to keep the car a while just sort the engine in it, at least you know its good then
