That's stood up well if you ask me. I'm assuming it was not a concrete barrier, but slightly surprised that it's a write off.

It's worth about £2000? Needing 2 Bumpers, 2 doors, 2 wheels, bonnet & 3/4 damage

  • Older Euro 3 would be best though. No DPF to worry about.

Its the rear quater damage thats killed it, other bits are just panels

It hasn't been officially wrote off but i assume it would be

I would say it would be a write off

Front and rear bumpers

2 doors

2 alloys

And it looks like the rear beam has shifted

Ok if they've got the rear beam it's toast in combination with the rear quarter.

If he was willing to use second hand parts thought, the lights, bumpers, wing, doors and wheels can be had for not much.

I guess it's down to insurnace fix, vs fix, but apart frem the rear quarter, the rest of those parts will be plentiful at a scrappy.

Don't these suffer with DMF problems too?

Sure I heard that somewhere

From all the suggestions, it has to be the Octy 1.9 for me, and not just because it's a Skoda

Not sure about the DMF but Mazda's DPF system is truely woeful. Just Google it. Far too many horror stories for it to be a minor issue.

Mate's Mazda 6 140 had a lot of problems with this and related diesel in the oil. so his oil level kept rising.

He also had rust, lots of problems with the brakes, it's been through about 2 sets of calipers all round. Kept it to 130k (~6yr old) but when the turbo started to go and the brakes again he moved on.

He did not look after it.

Mondeo st tdci. My old one was a great car to the point I've been thinking about getting another. I also used to do 600 miles a week and for the cash, couldn't have asked for a better car to do it in. Bad weather? Hop in, ramp the heated seats up whilst the heated windscreen clears and then off you go doing 50mpg+ no matter what kind of driving your doing! Despite the fact I test drove a bmw 3 series earlier there's a garage down the road from my office with a low mileage st for sale... Might go for a look tomorrow...

A fair few people in my old job use diesel Mazda 6's of varying age for their work cars (big milages, 30k a year is the low bar by quite a way). The main complaint is they're prone to head gasket failure at around 200k. Suppose DMF and DPF may be an issue with cars that are used on shorter journeys.

Yeah the 140 2.0 was supposedly terrible for DPF, that's why they dropped the engine for the 2.2 which so far has been spot on for me, but then again I'll only keep it 18 months then move on to volvo. I don't think I'd keep even the 2.2 long term.

I had a Mazda 6 (2 litre diesel) some years ago and had nothing but problems with it. No end of problems with electrical gremlins, but the most serious & common one apparently was with the fuel pump.

This would cause the car to cut out when slowing down and as a result the power steering would stop working. Not good when the wife was in the car with three kids!

I'd be surprised if he could find an older one anyway as mine was rusting something terrible around the rear wheel arches. All in all a very disappointing car.

Well he ended up buying a bmw 325d

Took some finance

Car has awesome spec

Leather heated sports seats

Sport steering wheel

Cruise

Auto xenons

Auto wipers

Front and rear parking sensors

Flappy paddle auto box

Msport suspension

"Rwd is out of the option as the car is needed every day."

He saw sense then ;)

Are the 325ds still a 6 cylinder in these?

Yeah well he decided if it was icey etc he would just take a taxi or the train

Yes the 325d is just a detuned 330d

Apparently the hardware is exactly the same so can map from 197bhp standard to 280bhp apparently :o

Or get some winter tyres *Hides*

Wow, that's some impressive gains, I assumed that it would be like the 116d, 118d & 120d where there are slight differences in turbos etc. Happy days in that case!

Well from 07 onwards the 325dshares exactly the same hardware as the 330d

Only difference at all is the pricetag and the mapping

So if you want a 330d just save the cash and get the 325d and map it. You'll be upto 335d stock power

:)

Winter tyres are an option. Hopefully winter carrys on as it has and it stays mild! Mildest winter so far i can remember

As long as the clutch etc. is the same, then that's a bargain compared to the 330d then (unless it's a n00b-o-matic, in which case no clutch to worry about  ).

Yeah, it's been mild here too. Bought winter tyres after lots of slow progress in last year's snow, but it's hardly been cold enough to warrant them -_-

I think you will find the 325d has more power from the facelifted (Post-09) the prefacelifted ones map to 230/240 ish, they are not identical they have different injectors and and few other bits, I know I had one for 2 years 325d Msport (2008) and swapped it for our 12 plate VRS Octy, You will find loads on the BMW forums but nowhere as nice as here.

Oh and BMW is the worst experience I had in a car (without winters) got stuck on the M1 for 6hours in the snow :(

Great cars to drive

Its a 2008 on an 08 plate

It doesnt matter to him what it maps to as it will never get mapped

Its an auto with flappy paddles as he has to sit in traffic for an hour each morning so in that respect its pretty ideal

:)

Oh yeah the bmw forums are full of idiots

Posted a pic up there of it and all i got back was, so much spec and it only has 17" wheels and a sarcastic LOL oh and 17's look stupid on e90's

Well i guess me and my brother will just have to look 'stupid' with 17" alloys

Yeah those 325d's do look ridiculous on 17's. What you need are 18's as they are 1 massively ginormous humongous inch larger.

In all seriousness I've seen a few E90's on 17's and think they look spot on. Plus they are far more comfortable with larger sidewalls. Exactly what you want when racking up the miles on the motorway (especially with Msport suspension).

Exactly

I actually went for the 17's as the 18's imo would be a pest

The rears are 255/35/18 and for a bridgestone runflat iirc its £260 a tyre :o

Stuff that! Even for my 255/40/17 rear its £150 for a kumho runflat

I also think 17's look fine

Mine

That looks sweet. On lowered cars 17's make the car appear lower. I prefer the look even though I went from 17" Zeniths to 18" Neptunes. The 17's looked more aggressive.

They usually do

Put 19's on and everyone tells you that you need coilovers

Quick example, my missus golf gt

Ride height didnt change just went from 17's to 18's

17's

18's

CE1B0811-29B5-410B-BCE0-8AEE42AFE195-310

The rid is rather harsh for 18's on the m-sport wheel if its going up and down the motorway then 17's are better IMO ;)

Yeah it all depends what your after

Everyone on e90post forum bums msports, basically if you havent got 19's and don't have an msport your car isn't hella dope

Also chrome grilles and chrome detailing around the windows is a mega no no. Where in fact i quite like the chrome touches, imo adds a wee bit of class to the car especially with the black paintwork

:)

Picked it up today

Got some pictures

Also got a pic of the 335d

Oh and one of my wheelbarrow edition which has been demoted to the street :o
