Erratic Revs

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

My 2001 Octavia VRS was being a bit troublesome this morning, the revs were low and for a while I had to put the car into first even when rolling to accelerate from a bend... at that I had to over rev the engine as it was a bit stubborn... seemed okay once the engine warmed up a bit...

Im guessing the MAF is on the blink but wanted to get your opinion?

Thanks,

Fionn

It's best to get it scanned.

From the ECU:

Fault log report generated by Torque for Android
=================================================

Vehicle VIN: Not present
Vehicle Manufacturer: Unknown
Vehicle Calibration ID: Not present

Current Fault Log
------------------
P0172: System too Rich (Bank 1)
P1296: [seat/Audi/Volkswagen] Cooling system malfunction

Pending Fault Log
------------------
ECU reports no pending faults

Historic Fault Log
------------------
ECU reports no historic faults
Other discovered fault codes
(possibly pending, current or manufacturer specific)
----------------------------------------------------
ECU reports no other fault codes logged

End of report.

I reset the codes and the problem disappeared... (had just started engine and revs were all over the place nearly stalling the engine, reset the faults and started engine... no probs)

My guess would be the coolant temp sensor. This is indicated by P1296 and is probably the indirect cause of the P0172.

vacuum leak....system too reach is the cause of a vacuum leak

you cleared the DTC the fuel trims were reseted and the error dissapeared, but will come back

check the fuel trim, will be negative

LE : I just seen the collant error,so CTS must be checked first

I only changed that coolant sensor (green yolk right?) a few months back, So Vacuum leak means a rotted hose somewhere? this would be the 3rd one but I guess for a car its age thats to be expected.
