Just had a go in the brother's Octy...

...it's bengie's Jabba'd 4*4 Elegance estate, I was kinda suprised at how dead it felt at low rpm compared to my Focus...but once the turbo comes into play

Also, with it not being a sporty model, it felt a bit oldmanish with the relatively big steering wheel and light controls  how does the feel of a vRS compare because I like the looks, build quality and performance, but, and I know coming back from the shops isn't going to give me a proper feel for anything, the detached feeling could really put me off

Well, i've driven both my dad's 'normal' Octy and Manguish's vRS, and there's a world of difference.

not being funny alan but is your dad's 'normal' octavia a 1.8T, mine also has coilovers so is lower stiffer than standard. tbh i can'tsee the vRS being an aweful lot different apart from firmer better holding seats.

One of the major issues that I have with most modern cars (my Octy vRS being no exception) is the lack of feedback from the steering but I guess that this is caused by the high levels of power assistance used.

Reagrding the vRS, unfortunately you will get the same light controls but such is life  - however, the performance more than offsets these (relatively) minor issues

As far as I can tell, buy an Octy vRS and show your brother how its done properly ;):D

I've only driven one 4x4 and that was jabba'd but otherwise unaltered. In that state I definitely felt the RS felt more planted & "sporty". Im sure if you uprate the suspension etc it would feel very different. TBH I also felt that the 4x4 felt a bit "old-manish" but i think that was almost more to do with the interior trim, seats and finish more than anything else

I found changing the steering rack bush to an uprated one, the change to an R32 wheel and some minor suspension mods makes a massive difference. Also I think I've managed to get away from the 'old man' interior with the konigs, but to be honest I don't think the standard 4x4 interior is that bad. It could just do with something to spice up the dash such as a different centre console trim.

Aye I sold my 4x4 because of the lack of feel in driving it....Eddy's path is an option.

I got bored and eventually got bored of dumping the clutch at 3k and going wet or dry. Not I have to think about when and where I apply the power.

What I will say is that despite it's feel it's equally as quick remapped, different tools for different jobs, but sprint overtakes the 4x4 had an edge on an Rs...open roads

this is lowered on kw coilovers and runs around 230bhp so it is fast and doesn't have the soft ride or body roll it had as standard...it just felt more like you were operating the car and less like you were driving it. i don't really have any issues with the interior itself, i just didn't like the overly assisted steering and the big-ish wheel

You should have a drive in a vRS then. To me, all the controls just felt better in the vRS.

BTW, my Dad's Octy is a 2 litre.

well the vRS does have bigger brakes than my car does (for now ;) ) so that would make a difference. it might also have a smaller steering wheel too??
