Am I wrong to want to replace my Fabia?

Featured Replies

As a pretty well known Fabia on the forum, am I wrong to think about trading it in? It's just a daily car, not used for anything "fun" other than the drive to work and back, but it does that and gets 50mpg+ whilst if I want it, can use any of the 200 horses it has!

Its no looker, but like the last owner, for me its been 100% spot on and never let me down.

However...

I want a saloon, in fact I want a Mondeo in drag.. a 2.2 D Jag a comfy bigger car that looks well a little more grown up.

It will be slower, it will use more fuel, but I don't know, I just want one.

So what am I to do!?

Get the Jag. If you want one, you won't get the idea out of your head till you have one

^ I have a habit of getting a car in my head and yeah just having to buy it...

GGrrr just don't want to sell the Fabia either hahah

lol suppose you have to grow up at some point :p

If you can afford better something go for it, its as simple as that.

There things i like and dont like about.

An X-type Jaguar? As Clarkson said, "The horror......the horror!"

Can't imagine what would possess you to 'want' one, having driven one I think they're goddamn awful, and not even as honest as the Mundeno they are based on.

Each to their own, I suppose, but I'd put my money, and mind, into to something..... better.

I know how you feel I've got it in my head I want a mondeo st tdci even though I think I'd regret it. Might test drive one to get it out of my system

Ford diesel engines just arnt as good as VAG units IMO

I completely agree with you but I've got wandering eyes and I wanted one of those before the fabia. I think I need to test drive one and remember how **** the clutch pedal is on them and how it's not as refined as the fabia and I'll be ok again

Tbh I'd rather have the ST TDCi Mondeo than the Jag... but each to their own!

Running costs will be slightly more but can't see them being too horrific. Plus a cheeky remap takes them to around 180bhp and a nice chunky ~300lb-ft torque, so should feel quite lively!

From what I've read they don't seem to have any major issues other than similar to the Fabia regarding the DMF and clutch being expensive to change if it fails.

Keep the Fabia and buy the Jag XFR!

Don't then. ;)

Can you not just hire one for the weekend, that would be the best way to find out if you could live with it and not miss the fabia

I haven't test drove the X-Type (yet) just feel as if I want some form of saloon car, none VAG ideally, derv, 50mpgish and a little different.

So X-Type or 9-3?

Its just a daily and Mr Boss, I think your the only person the forum that has more cars than I do, so stop trying to get me to catch up with your madness! At least most of mine are not in the league of bonkers good sir.

I know it will cost more and not be as fast... but I want comfy and 50mpg and cruising y0.

Same here I fancy a nice bigger car that's why I'm thinking the mondeo st or a bora 150 or even a leon 150

I'd rather have a MY2000 XK8 V8 than the x type, but thats me though its not diesel etc :p

I went through this phase, I had a saxo vts and wanted something more grown up so I bought a peugeot 406 110 hdi only lasted 3 months then bought a vts again as I missed the thrill factor

Just do it, you only live once.

No, you're not wrong to want to replace your Fabia, but I do think you'll regret it sooner rather than later.

I've had (and have) some fairly mental metal in the garage, and the one that never fails to make me grin like a loony is the Furby. I can tell you all the things I don't like about the long list of other cars I have had, and the only bad thing I can tell you about the Furby is it's not getting any younger.

If you do sell i'll take it off you.

Still annoyed i didn't take it off Barrie the 1st time around :)

Very minor changes since my ownership, aka a full interior!

In relation to thrill factor... I don't mean to be rude about the car, as its epic I know it is, but its really not meant to be for thrills. I know the sensible thing is to keep it another year+ so I might do that actually.

I do like planting it and laughing at most cars on the road as its a hybrid, but that happens at best once every two weeks :/

I am getting old :(
