Introduction and request for opinion on 2nd hand Skoda.

Hello

Found this forum after doing a bit of research into getting a Skoda. I believe a Skoda it is the car that fits my needs and looking for a Fabia Estate. I am after the estate as I have a dog and also like to Mountain Bike so the ability to put the bike in the back of the car would be great. Previously for the past 10 years I have only had a motorbike so its a bit of a diversion for me... Bikes and second hand bikes I have no troubles with and do the maintenance myself. I must admit though I am a bit lost in the world of cars..

Compared to bikes there seems to be a lot of fluctiations / niggles with modern cars and known issues. Most bikes engines nowadays seem to be super reliable even with the abuse they can get.

I was looking at this Fabia Estate

I was wondering if people could give me their opinion on it. Is this the same 1.4l engine that is susceptible to head gasket problems? I dont see many 08+ 1.4l engines.. They seem to be 1.2 and the TSI series. Is it simply not a popular size or has it been discontinued?

Any advice appreciated. Cheers !

As of 2010, the engine line-up was updated along with a facelift; this was introduced at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. 1.2 litre TSi turbocharged petrol engines replaced the previous 1.4 and 1.6 litre engines, providing significant improvements to fuel consumption and corresponding reductions in CO2 emissions.

Just go here make gives a really good general idea

 Thanks for this..

so this 1.4l could potentially have head gasket issues in the future???

Also.. A VRS on Lewis ! Went to Lewis once on a Saturday night and thought I would get food shopping on Sunday.. Ended up with a couple of packets of crips from a petrol station that was open for about 4hours. I was starving.. Lovely beaches though :)

Yea was the only fabia vrs until last week :(,

Well has its advantages and diadvantages, you soon learn to keep muncies for sunday :p. Im more bothered about not having super unleaded then anything else.

I have heard many a good review about the tsi so if you can stretch to the 1.2 tsi or 1.6 diesel then you should have a wicked wee car
