Brakes spongy

Featured Replies

Just changed the rear pads on vrs octy. Job I've done loads. But wen pumping pedal up the rear flexi burst. Lucky them than wen I wos out on the road. Fitted flexi and bled brakes but can't get a good pedal. Have done all brakes twice now and still loads of travel on pedal. Got dark so had to stop. Any ideas?? Cheers

keep bleeding and keep topping up wen bleeding u might find that could work

Pump the pedal method often causes the seal to reverse. Pressure or vacuum bleed is best method on VAG cars.

I've yet to see any actual evidence of this. The rumour is the pressure bleeders do, NOT pumping the pedal. And I still don't buy it.

OP, did you bleed the master cylinder itself (the two nipples front and back)?

If not, do so, then bleed the calipers again, starting with further away from the master cylinder. And yes, ideally a pressure bleeder is best, but you should never exceed 9psi on a normal braking system.

Normally, a burst hose wont cause much grief to bleed. 3 or 5 pumps of the pedal should normally clear the air. Did the reservoir run out/low of fluid? You may have to bleed the diagonal brake on the circuit if it got too low.

I think I'm going to bleed the master cylinder as I think it ran dry. I've never had this problem before they usally bleed good at the calipers.

Sorted. Bled the master cylinder and brakes are rock hard again. Cheers

The only cars I've heard that flip the seal are the old vauxhalls and rovers.
