Chris

Mine was on variable when I bought her.

But got dealer to change her to fixed when I bought the 2 years warranty.

Thanks Wayne...I'll have a word with them in March when Ive saved up to pay for it!!!

Also with VCDS you can change it from variable to fixed between services and keep the time and distance correct. You don't need to wait until the next service.

Looking at  getting my timing belt and water pump done soon.  Haven't gotten any quotes yet.

Came across this on Boards.ie while 'Googling' - "When fitting new timing belt you should ensure that as well as a new belt, the belt tensioner and the belt idler pulley should also be renewed.  New cam bolts, idler bolts and tensioner bolts should also be fitted".  Just some guy's opinion without any reference Skoda etc.,

This sounds like a lot more than a straight belt/pump change.  I wonder would this be normal practice when carrying out a timing belt change?

Yes that is normal practise and the pulley and tensioner (and the bolts to attach them) come as a kit.

Its often the tensioner or pulley that fail rather than the belt itself.

I am booking in to Newton Abbot Skoda in March ( I do not trust the French Skoda garages here!) for cambelt, 4 year service, change brake fluid, service aircon,  haldex fluid, . I think it will be nearer £1000 than £700!!

Thanks Trundlenut - Useful info when getting quotes - Will ensure that ALL of the above is included.
