Misty windows

Featured Replies

Every time the sun goes down and the temp drops my car windows mist up big time my doors don't leak (touch wood) but when the frost kicks in the inside of my windscreen freezes too. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution to it? Or is it something I just have to live with?

Sounds like you do have a leak somewhere. Or you have your blower on recirculating all the time ?

Have a good feel under the floor all over mext time it rains

Mine is the same and doors don't leak. Im blaming it on wet feet in and out making the mats damp. I hadnt used it in a couple days and yesterday it was that wet my sticky tax disc holder fell off :( . Also just thought I havnt checked my pollen filter in a while so that could be blocked and damp.

Same here no leak but mists up like something that mists up really bad. Never looked at my pollen filter as my ac doesn't work but may need to check it as I will be re gassing my ac at some point anyway to see if it works

Just looked at the title again and actually lol'd thinking of Tina Turner singing steamy windows. God I am weird just ban me now

Well there is only one reason, moisture. If your doors don't leak then there is damp in the car. Chuck some cat litter in there for a few days to soak some of it up. See of it improves

I found pointing the heater vents to the footwells help stopped it building up overnight. The moisture in the air blows through the car and into the screen.

Every car I've had since then has had climate control, which shuts the vents off when not turned on (and I think the VW's dumped air into the footwells for about 20 seconds after starting to prevent moisture going to the windscreen).

Mines the same although not that extreme. I've checked for leaks and can't see anything, I've got rear electric windows so have different carriers to most anyway.

I've gave up for now...

Mine doesn't do it only because i bought wind deflectors and leave my windows open all the time because my mystery water leak is f**king shocking.  All the doors have been sealed and there's no evidence of water on any of the door rubbers.  The plenum chamber is totally clear and i have a new pollen filter yet my drivers side carpet is always soaking hence me constantly having the blowers pointed at the floor.  I would happily burn the car its annoying so much having a mystery water leak.

I suspect some of it is down to moisture in your breath. Mine improved after leaving the A/C on all the time. A couple of small cheapo dehumidifiers in the back of the front seats also works wonders.

Like these but they can be bought singly from supermarkets. Look in the household aisles.

I got one of these from Asda

4 wipes going across in a straight line and the windscreen is clear enough for the fans to clear within about a minute and i'm ready to go

Always took a lot longer with cloths

I put an electric heater in the car on hot for a day and it dried the car out completely.

Not the fabia. But previous cars. Wet feet in and out dont help the moisture thing

I've noticed this with mine last couple of mornings and I changed my pollen filter it was black and well overdue a change, checked driverside passenger door no leak but water is getting over the rubber seal causing wet carpet syndrome hence mist and I noticed a water drip top from behind the mirror area but no chips outside so bit of a strange one, so I think an hour of 2 drying the mats out with a hairdryer should  sort it out.

I've had this recently, no leaks at all but the car doesn't get used too much. Think I'll get some dehumidifier crystals to see if it helps

I've had one of those dehumidifier crystal in the car and it did help a little bit, might put a couple more in and see if that makes a difference. Where about is the pollen filter? I shall change that as well

Yesterday morning was pretty frosty, which meant not only did I scrape the outside of the windscreen but also the inside! Seriously scraping ice off the inside of the car, why am I doing this. Will be selling up soon, so bloody annoying.

Pollen filter is passenger side up behind the dash if i remember rightly.

I'm weird too, that's why I know Tony Joe White wrote it and sang it first; swwaaaammmp music!

I'd suggest checking the pollen filter btw (back to the topic), it doesn't take much of a leak for water to accumulate, and then it has nowhere to go except into the air or to condense on cold surfaces (like the glass, at night)

I'm having trouble with water in the rear O/S foot well so don't think it can be the pollen filter but where exactly is the "plenum chamber(s)" as not shown or listed in the Haynes manual or the han book

Thank you

Where you windscreen motor hides is your plenum chanber. Under the black thing at the bottom of your windscreen. Look in the haynes book of lies at the section that tells you how to remove the windscreen motor.

Also if its water in the rear and the front is dry i'd check the rear door seals before looking at the plenum chamber in the front of the car.  Open the rear door of the offending leak and have a look in the seal (the bit that goes around the actual car.  Have a look in the bottom to see if theres any water.
