Fogs as DRL's on 03 vRS & tails on permanently?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone's played around with this option yet?

I like the fact on my Octy vRS the LED DRL's are lower down than the headlight and it looks good, also when you switch the headlights on and they dim (too much IMHO but hey) there is still light from the headlight and lower down on the car.

Merc do this as well with there LED's in the lower grill and I do think it looks good. I have ordered my new 03 vRS but delivery won't be until march :-( so in the mean time if anyone wants to have a play with it to see if you can get any of these options:

1. Fogs as additional DRL's, on top of the LED light bar in the headlight (I can have fog and LED on my octy 2)

2. Fogs as additional lights when either side or headlights are on (ideally at a reduced power of around 20 - 30% to visually mimic my led DRL's)

3. Fogs as coming home / leaving home lights

If we could get these working I would change the 2 fog light bulbs for led ones (like the 50w cree ones i have in my fog lights as they are my coming home / leaving home lights - don't actually use them for anything else)

Also has it been discovered yet if VCDS can set the tail lights on all the time as it wasn't possible on the FL vRS (had to be done using VAS)?

Happy playing and if not it will have to wait until mine arrives

Thanks

I reckon you can do any of those - point 2 would be tricky to configure though and get it right.

Fogs as DRLs can be done but it may disable the LED bar

Fogs as coming/leaving home can be done

Tailights on all the time can be done as well - the downside is the dash illumination and the number plate lights are on as well

Other options are that you can have DRLs only come on in AUTO, so if you turn to 0 all lights are off including DRLs

That's a neat feature.

I appreciate this is a Rapid and not a MkIII Octy, although it's hard to tell (just kidding!) but this member has turned off the DRL's in the main headlight and set the fog lights to act as DRL's instead.

It would appear that instead of reducing their intensity he has applied black tape over the lense...

I like the dash lights on all the time - wish it could be done on my current one :-)

I look forward to playing with this on mine unless you get someones vRS to try it out on first.

Thanks

The LED bars stay on as well apparently. The only spanner in the works is if you can have the fogs on a vRS work as cornering fogs and DRLs, haven't seen any other light with 3 functions assigned to it, although it does appear possible.

Already tried the tail lights on with DRLs and didn't like it so turned it off.

Tried the DRLs off on 0 (on on AUTO) and decided seeing as I leave the light switch in AUTO all of the time there wasn't much point!

Not tried the fogs as DRLs yet, or setting the fogs as parking lights, and I doubt if I will, but they are all feasible with how the lights are configured on the O3.
