I've been out of the social scene on Briskoda for a while now, did a couple of meets with Alan etc last year and would probably have found the info I needed had I kept coming along.

 

But...are there any mk1 Octy vRS owners in the area that have stage 1-ish mods? Remap, coilies, ARB's etc? It's make or break time for me and the vRS, either I modify with those types of mods or it has to go for something more involving. I'd be interested to be a passenger in a lightly modified vRS to see if the mods really do make the world of difference to the car that I need.

Hello Nathan. 

I no longer have the vRS which is of no use to you at all.  However, I was in the same position as you in the past and reading your post was exactly how I felt at the time.  I filtered the advice that people gave, looked into things and in the end had a custom stage 1 remap at RS tuning in Leeds and fitted a 22mm Whiteline RARB.  These simple mods had two effects.  The first was to have little or no impact on my insurance premiums as with these mods declared I was paying just over £300 fully comp.  The second effect was to transform the vRS into a whole new car for less than £500.  The map made all the difference as it was a lovely smooth delivery without any mental spikes along the way.  Third gear went on forever and was amazing when overtaking.  The RARB made cornering a lot less wobbly and with some decent tyres on I was a happy camper. 

If I still had the car you'd be welcome to a drive on the roads round Scarborough.  Seeing as it is no longer mine, hopefully this slightly rambling post might be of some use.
