Windscreen crack / warranty issue

Featured Replies

A crack that has appeared (and is spreading rapidly) up my windscreen - Noticed it this morning starting from the front bottom edge in front of the driver.

Autoglass are coming out to repair it under my insurance, but am thinking if it's down to premature failure of the glass or seal should I contact Skoda and see if I can get some money back off of them?

Not too worried if I can't as it's only £75 excess - just thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has had similar problems and what the cause was of this?

I really don't think you will have any success with SUK for a cracked windscreen, it is just one of those things that can happen.

I am guessing you might have had a stone chip and it has just turned into a crack. Unlucky.

Did have a windscreen replaced under warranty on a Octavia I. Cracked from the bottom edge but on the inside laminate layers only. Turned out it was a Czech beer bottle top wedged between the front of the dash and the screen. No idea how it had got there, a party at the factory maybe or the previous owner; car was an approved used and just over a year old when we bought it.

I vaugely remember a few Octavia A5's having the windscreens crack on them within a couple of months of use.

If there's no evidence at all of any stone chips the dealer may be able to claim it under warranty as the screen cracking due to stress from improper fitment at the factory?
