Over steer!

Featured Replies

Does anyone have problems with oversteer on their Fabia's?

I've just had a lucky escape coming out of a round about, the back end overtook me and ended up going backwards over a grass verge, ending up on the other side of the road.

Luckily I've not caused any damage I think but it scared me to say the least. It's not the first time either it's happened twice before, but I was able to catch it before it spun.

The thing that supprise's me the most is they were all instances that I would expect a fwd car to understeer not oversteer.

It's now left me very nervous i've lost a bit of confidence with the car to be honest.

That's what I mean it' doesn't make sense. My last two cars have been Golfs, and they were very predictable especially my old 16v mk2 I had complete confidence it that car I knew exactly how far I could safely push it before it bit me. But this Skoda is nowhere near it.

Just Had RS'2 fitted on the front but the back's are budgets possibly. That's what crossed my mind, possibly more grip on the fronts than back.

Ok that might be a perfect excuse to try out the new rs3's

I reckon it's a government conspiracy and if you give me five minutes I'll find some stuff on youtube to back it up and some irrelevant quotes to copy and paste further confirming my theory

Your tyres will be to blame

Most of us run RARB's on the stiffest setting, etc and even then it isn't a problem for every day driving

Thanks I needed to hear that. I know it sounds obvious but I'd rather hear from people who've had a lot more experience before I throw money at it.

Cheers guys

Lol happy new year to you all.

You need a close call like that to find the limitations of your car lol, just lucky there was no damage.

I generally take it easy on roundabouts and bendy slip roads, especially in the wet, you can sometimes almost feel the rear wanting to fly out but the tyres have just enough grip to keep you in line

Used to be a lot worse before i lowered it and got new suspension, it used to be like this but also felt like the car was going to tip over at the same time

Mine done it when I had budgets on the rear. Caught me out the first time but now I know it happens I can deal with it and embrace it!!

Thanks guys. I know tyres are crucial but I guess I took for granted the impact of the rears. Now I know hopefully I shouldn't be making that mistake again.

On a positive note I really want to sample the rs3's after being quite impressed with the rs2's. Now is the time to order up a pair.

Camskill or Mytyres are usually the cheapest and don't hammer you on the delivery either I've found.

No doubt.... If you can control it.

Let me put it this way I aint no Senna

I've done this on proper tyres only I ended up on my roof. Have sinced learn to drive better I think and have never had similar occur again, apart from on track where it's Safe to push it a bit.

I highly recommend doing a skid control course where they have a car on a 4 wheel rig to lift an axle and affect a slow speed skid.

That would possibly be a wise thing to do.

As I don't live that far from you, is there any places you would recommend? I would love to do a track day or two as well but unfortunately money is a limitation for me.

Google Devon Travel Academy.  It was where I did my course a few years ago.
