Won't start/ turn over

Featured Replies

Gents,

Last few mornings when starting the car the power steering wouldn't kick in, turned off then back on again the PAS would be there.

Now today when starting the car nothing, it won't turn over. All electrics come on and work as should wipers, lights, CD player etc

Jump stared it with leads to another car and it turns over?

Any ideas.?

I'm assuming the battery has had it, but all electrics work and nothing is going dim or slowing down (wipers)

Cheers

I had something similar. It was my battery as i had the interior lights on all night. My mate came over with Snap-On Battery pack and jump started me and its been fine ever since.

ECU cuts the PAS when it senses low battery voltage, batteries had it.

Could either be the battery or it's not getting charged. First things first is to get your battery checked over.

I had this problem last week and it was my starter motor so I've put a new one in! Haven't had issues since

I would give you for that.... But i've ran out :giggle:

Just to clarify i mean a like lol

next time get the equivalent Varta battery, made in the same factory to the same spec but usually cheaper :)

I'd tend to stay away from varta.  I've had 2 or 3 of them and they were crap.

Yuasa Professional are what I go for every time now.

Had the battery tested at idle 12.1 volts not so good, and the alternator was the same.

I revved the engine, turned the lights rear heated screen and the volts from both the battery and alternator went up 14.1?

Some one help?!

I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave previously.

The battery's had it.

You just proved it, 12.1V is no good at all, I'm willing to bet that on a cold morning during starting the voltage is dropping below 12V even if you manage to get it to start.

I'm not saying that a reconditioning charger like a CTEK one won't bring the battery back enough to get you through, but such a charger is more expensive than a new battery if you don't have one available. Your choice really.

Thanks sepulchrave.

What are your thoughts on the starter solenoid wire, worth checking?

Thanks again

Battery may be fine

You alternator load sensor wire has broken above the gearbox, thats why you aren't getting 14.4V at idle

Kicks in once you rev it passed 1500rpm

Any pics of where this wire is? I know where the alternator is, where about is the wire?

Cheers

It runs over the gearbox

You have to remove the battery and battery box to get to it

Guide from an ibiza but same idea

You'll probably find you have one of the cores broken which would give your problems

You won't get 14.4V with a full load on it like the OP describes, 14.1V suggests the alternator is working ok, it's just that the battery isn't holding enough depth of charge and is exhausted, it needs a full recharge which is why the ECU cuts the PAS once the car has started.

Now then, just scanned it for codes which I should have done in the first place....

Wire broke leading to both codes?

Im sticking to my guns

I'll put a fiver on it :)

I would go out and look but it's dark, wet and windy.

Will update tomorrow.

First code is the dead battery, second is the alternator.

I think Big Jase is right and so am I. You need to do the load sensor wire AND get a new battery.

That wire was broken on mine. I found it easier to get to it from under the car.

Danny6189, where exavtky was the wire? Under the battery holder? I couldnt identify mine under there.
