Alloy Spacing

Featured Replies

Everytime i read a topic on here about spacing the wheels out, everyone seems to have the back wider than the front. Is there a particular reason for this?

Cheers

Not 100% sure but i think front width is bigger than the rear as standard so by only adding spacers to the rear your just making them the same as the front width. Like i said not 100% sure though

Right i see, but if i was to do it i would be spacing both front and rear out by 20mm, i dont know whether that would cause a problem?

I put some 50mm spacers on my fabia project and on top of that put some 20mm axle spacers on the rear to, if you look at my project the front and rear wheels are now dead in line with each other so the difference between front and rear width on a fabia is roughly 20mm. So depending on if they would fit I'd go any where from 20mm front 40mm rear  or like most people do 0 on the front and just 20mm on the rear

Oh 20mm front and rear would be no problem aslong as there hubcentric

I have 15mm on the fron and 20mm on the back. The backs deffinatly stick out more but both fill the arches nicley.

I like to think a wider back keeps the back end in check when cornering but may be wrong ?

Same as, had 20mm at the back 15mm up front but it kept catching on the arches

That's what I ran, caught on arches and flaked paint, was an expensive mistake!

The track width on the mk1 Fabia is 10mm wider on the front than the rear.. Front being 1432mm rear 1422mm.. Hence you end up putting larger spacers on the rear to get the wheels to fit the fill the arches the same..

I'm running 17mm spacers on the front and 20mm on the rear..

mk2 Fabia is similar being 8mm wider at the front (1423mm front 1415mm rear)

Right i see why people do it now, for better stability in the back end as it is slightly thinner which im guessing causes alot of the body roll aswell, thanks johnno92.

I was under the impression wider rear track on a fwd car = more understeer?

Wider front promotes oversteer

Wider rear promotes understeer

Drive of wheels doesn't matter.

So by putting wider rear on an already understeer fwd car your just making it worse
