OK, a bit happier now, for the time being the Golf seems to be fixed.

What a start to the day I got off to, waking up hungover from the night before, I had on my hands a car that wouldnt start, and couldnt be bump started either. Here we go again thinks I. My neighbour saw my plight and came out with some jump leads. That still failed to start it. So we have a dig around, and it became apparent that the HT lead that was replaced earlier was fried again. Lucky I'd already bought some new ones. So plugged in a new one, which took some effort due to remenants of the old one being stuck inside the socket, which had to be removed first.

So I got on my way and it still didnt quite feel right. Got it down there, and the mechanic had a look for me. I went away to fix my parents computer and the car was returned to me 4 hours later.

He did all the servicing for me, and also replaced some trim that was missing from the engine bay that prevented water from spilling straight onto the coil. He tidied up the electrics and the car has effectively been fully serviced now. The distributor cap and rotor arm were also in poor condition, so its a good job I got them done.
