Hi there, a fabia 1.4 16v owner here. It's only my second car but due to my job i drive a load of different cars everyday and this one is right up there.

Having said that it's been riddled with faults ever since i had it but when occasionally things are running smoothly.... ahh bliss.

You gotta love the look on peoples faces when they're overtaken by a skoda..... :P

Sort of..... i had the rear washer jet pop off and fill my boot with water like quite a few people but the main problem with hunting at idle and just generally iffy running. I had all sorts of sensors replaced all over the engine until i got a friendly local mechanic to have a quick look and he found the throttle body housing was completely filled with gunk. It turned out i had a messed up air filter that meant it wasn't burning fuel properly...seems to have done the job though after that was replaced (touch wood).

Also when it was in having a lamda sensor replaced they found that the camshaft was about to go..... so that got done but they had the car for 10 days and i'm too young to be insured on a loan car so that wasn't much fun.

(still, better than a knackered engine!)

Now i've got a problem with a squeaky clutch, i've had the slave cylinder repaced but that didn't sort it..... back to the garage i go.....

1. Common problem that gunking up, the 1.4 16v tends to breathe quite heavy and oil gets pulled around the breather into the air filter like you say and gum up the t/b. Also the EGR valve goes out of basic settings.

2. Camshaft or cambelt? Cambelts are quite common with a known fault on the tensioner. Never heard of anyone needing a camshaft (there are two).

3 If its squeaking is it making a noise inside of outside? Inside its probably either the master cylinder or the pedal return spring. If its outside maybe the release bearing.

interesting that you say that gunk in the t/b is quite a common problem, my dealer seemed to think it was a freak occurence.... :eek:

About the camshaft... i do apologise, i looked back through my paperwork and it was a cam shaft follower (???) that was very heavily worn. My car was supposedly owned by an elderly couple before i had, i really wonder how they treated the poor thing....

Thirdly, the clutch squeak definately seems to be coming from the outside, right underneath the drivers seat, though it's so loud it can be heard inside with the door and window closed at idle.

Hello again, sorry i haven't posted much, i've been ever so busy.

Just a quick update, i've had a new master cylinder and bushes behind the pedals...... my clutch still squeaks

My dealer suggested that the only thing that could be causing it can be the plates which obviously are wear and tear items...... and i'm skint!

Nevermind...

As in 'clutch plates' Pressure/Release! Sounds like Bull to me! But it's about 10 years since I changed a clutch. 1.3 Astra was a pop. Complete job in 25 mins. 1.6 Sierra was a pain!
