Some Advice - Potential Purchase

Featured Replies

Hello!

I am potentially looking at an '06 Fabia VRS in the week which appears very well cared for with a Skoda tech as the last owner.

The only thing that causes me a bit of concern is that it has had a Power Flow exhaust fitted, not really 100% sure whether someone would just for an exhaust and if I should be looking out for any other mods? Will it affect car if it has just had a cat back exhaust fitted?

Does anyone have or experienced a Power Flow exhaust - but worried about noise etc. seems strange to fit a performance exhaust to a diesel?!?

Any advice most welcome.

Cheers

assuming all else seems fine I wouldn't let that put me off   (Ibiza 130 with a better exhaust system)   look at it as a starting point when you get bitten by the bug  ---improving on the factory stuff doesn't have to be expensive and if you don't want to go fast you can play squeezing more mpg   :-)

Thanks for that, just didn't know whether it would alter running etc of the car if not 'mapped in' or anything like that??

If I liked the look of the tailpipe on it then id just see it as a bonus.

Also, chances are it'll last much longer than a standard mild steel system would.

Thanks chaps, different way of looking at it - in fact I am told it has a Lifetime Warranty!?!?!?

It's also had a new clutch and flywheel fitted by the dealer, they said it was a bit noisy so did both to be sure - what sort of cost would this replacement be so I have an idea of what expense I have dodged by them doing that??

Cheers

~£500-700.

More at main dealer prices. If he was a skoda tech id imagine he fitted it himself so it would only have been about £300 and a morning.

If it's needed a new clutch and flywheel and has a power flow exhaust i'd say chances are it's mapped - Another bonus perhaps!

That's a hefty cost then at their expense!

vRS Joe - it did cross my mind but I guess no way of knowing for sure?!?

Butt dyno, but only if you're familiar with the car/engine otherwise hooking it upto VCDS and logging boost will give you an idea.

Don't be put off by a clutch and flywheel having been replaced this isn't a red flag for it having been mapped. Clutches can be lunched on stock power by inconsiderate driving style.

Thanks for that, allegedly the previous owner was a 'mature gentleman' and was a Skoda tech so everything done through the dealer and it has been meticulously maintained.

We will see I guess! It's got cruise which is a bonus I guess, other than that it's standard stuff by the looks of it.

Loads more useful info 'pre-purchase' in this link.

Any info on Mileage etc? 2006 suggests it will be a BLT engine code.

Had a good read of that cheers, good few pointers on there.

It's covered 73,000 i am not sure about engine code but guessed it was a BLT, looks a nice smart example will post up some more after my first viewing!

Ask him if it's had anything else done to it? Just say you were probably going to go down the remapping route anyways and he might come clean about it

Yes I think I will have a chat and see what the situation is, you would think if it was mapped etc they would advertise the fact!?!
