Simple question really.

I don't know very much about the Motability scheme.

Do the various dealerships offer a different choice of models within the same brand or will they all offer the same?

My specialist subject.

Different classes of cars available from most Manufacturers, to suit many different needs, suit all ages and types.

you can maybe get a Deal that suits instead of with Motability, a 'Just Add Fuel', or likes.

Just if you need named Drivers that might not fit in with the Motability Scheme,

or because you want to stay with your own Insurance and keep NCD. but thats usually OK for 3 years.

You might find using the PIP and getting a PCP Deal suits you.

or getting a car loan.

All down to if the Mobility lease for 3 years suits, it is quite Expensive now IMO,

I used it in the Past and would not now.

Thanks, I don't think I phrased my question very clearly: My local Skoda dealership can offer a Fabia in S, SE or Elegance, but only these models. Would a different dealer be able to offer a Monte Carlo or VRS for example?

If approved by Motability they may, but Deposits can be very high.   You just ask the trained 'Motability Specialist' in the Dealership'.

Things might have changed in the last few months.

'Motability Finance', buy the cars outright and they go to Auction when returned, no longer Dealers Buy backs;

and it is all worked out on residuals by 'Motability Finance'..

The Manufacturers are doing them deals on particular models,

There has to be a Code for the vehicle, some Dealers try to get a Car Supplied that they have available and it can get knocked back. Higher Spec and Higher price and yet Motability says no.

The 3 monthly Change on the Listed Vehicles can often through up some nice offers.

Often rather Expensive Vehicles as Run Out Models on offer.

Sometimes very new released models that are not selling.

EDIT.

The Skoda Fabia vRS is available on the scheme, but the deposit, non returnable is £1,645

& Total allowance payable for 3 years,

So 156 x £55.25 = £8,619, plus £1,645, = £10, 264, to lease for 3 years. *£239.40 a Monthy.*

(and the 2.5 % or whatever on the £55.25 increase each April gets taken.)

That is crazy money IMO

You already have free VED (road tax), so not the 3 times £140 to pay.

You can buy a pretty new vRS for £11,000,  get an extended warranty,   after 3 years if you want to keep it.

& in 3 years time the car is likely to still be worth at least £7000.

You just had to pay maybe 1 MOT, and 2 services, and your own insurance for 3 years.

Monte Carlo £295 Deposit

Monte Carlo Estate £395, plus £8,619,    It is costing you £3,000 a year to lease.

Probably better buying new on a Skoda Finance Scheme and keep the car for 5 years,

If you get the DLA or PIP for 5 years, before the annual increase, 260 weeks of £55.25 = £14,365.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation.

It's actually for my mother in law, who has been using the Motability scheme for over 15 years. She does not take very good care of her cars to say the least, and it is probably just as well that she has a new one on the scheme every 3 years, she is due for a new car and was asking me to help her choose a new one.

Currently she has a top of the range Nissan Quashqai that she paid about £1400 advance for. She's wanting something high up as she has problems getting in and out of a car. I took her to look at the Yeti - annoyingly none come with Sat-nav so it would mean that she would have to pay cash upfront for any options outside of base spec.

In the showroom she kept getting in to a Fabia VRS (not knowing what it was) and I was thinking that something like a Monte Carlo Tech would suit her down to the ground as it has Nav and Bluetooth.

She does tend to be a bit impulsive and it's currently looking like she might go for a Renault Captur as it has all of the gadgets as standard, but she hasn't driven one yet.

Motability is taking far more interest in the state of the cars that come back at the end of the lease.

If she doesn't take care of them she might well end up with a largish bill at the end. I know my folks have paid for minor dent repairs (Tesco dings etc) before handing the cars back the they're pretty careful with the cars.

They have checked the cars carefully for a good number of years now for other than Fair Wear and Tear, decades actually.

(Accident Excess on repairs on accidental damage is only £75)

The car goes for a MOT before it is handed back and you may get a Home Visit to check condition before the hand back date.

But in the last few years you also get 'Cash Back', for Very Good condition returns.

Sometimes when the Car is Dropped off for Collection of the next vehicle, the one you hand in can be on a Transporter before the end of that day and transported to the Auction.
