Roomster - 1000 mile report

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

My Roomster (1.2 TSI 105) has just clocked up 1000 miles, after a month of ownership, so I thought I'd better post my list of faults and complaints....

NONE !!

If this is a typical example of Skoda build quality, I wouldn't drive anything else ever again.  It's solid - no squeaks or rattles, smooth, comfortable, quiet and surprisingly quick.  It's even pretty economical...even though my previous car was a diesel!!

I've averaged over 40 mpg so far, although I'm only just starting to use the performance a bit more.  The first time I 'used it in anger', I was overtaking a waggon on the A686.  In the past it was down a grear and hammer the car past.....in the Roomster I left it in 5th....in no time I was past the waggon and accelerating past 80 mph!!  I find the engine is so torquey that you don't need to hammer it through the gears.... but if you do it really lifts!!

My only 'niggle' was the small front doors (compared to the 2 door cars I've had in the past), but this is just use, and they certainly haven't caused any problems.  I also had to top up the screen wash (!)......  oil was OK.

Practicality is what it's all about...and the interior space is huge....

I've even had a few people ask if it's a Yeti..........

I wish someone would take the p*ss with a few old Skoda jokes.....I'd enjoy putting them right!

Finaly all I can say is it's BRILLIANT !!!!

I'm on my second Roomster in 6 years. Doors? well, with narrow parking spots, smaller must be better. Yes, screen wash bottle is not a good size I agree. I have never needed to top up the oil in the whole 6 years - one service to the next did the job.

It's a  good car. BUT I have now got a Yeti on order because I have decided it's a step up the ladder. At some future date I will give an honest report on weather that is , overall, a good or bad move

@ g1tpo - I'm pleased you like your Roomster.  I've had mine more than four years (from new) with no faults or complaints.  My "niggle" is 15" wheels are not an option on the Scout.  The Scout's 16" wheels make the ride un-necessarily firm.

@merseadog - I look forward to your report on stepping up to a Yeti.  I love the Yeti but chose the Roomster - partly for its non-mainstream looks - but chiefly for it's superior cargo space with spare wheel installed.  Nowadays, I do not need all that cargo space....

I too have now completed just over 1000 miles in my TSI 85  Roomster. Like the OP nothing has gone wrong, everything is as it should be. I am getting over 45 mpg so far. I have had my bike in the back without fuss (I bought the internal bike holder - two minutes to put in or take out) and the seats come out and go back in very easily. Coming from a Berlingo ( no problems at all in 100K miles to be fair) I am enjoying the superior driving experience of the Roomster.

I have completed 4K in my TSI 85 since September and no problems, and the only rattle is from the rear seat belts when the grand kids forget to put the buckles back in their slots, no oil used.

Fuel consumption is slightly worse than my old Fabia 1.4 mpi when the official figures said it should be a bit better, but well worth it for the much more pleasant drive and larger boot space. This one should be a keeper!

The 'small door' and screen waser bottle comments were very tongue in cheek!!  I'll repeat ....the car is brilliant !!!

We considered a Yeti, cos my wife loves them..... but the Roomster does what we want, so we are very happy with it, and as I've said looks a bit like a Yeti with teh roof bars...

All the Best

Rob

Oh, yes. The rear buckle not in their slot rattle. Took me a bit of time to work it out, first time. Things are sent to try us sometimes. I had forgotten about that one.  LOL

Just done over 2000 miles in mine and I concur with everyone else..Just returned from a long trip during the New Year, mixed running and did nearly 500 miles on a full tank  ..so far no squeaks or rattles etc..just feels solid and well put together. No complaints and the load space is outstanding and have put it to good use since I got it. Must love it because this one gets washed and cleaned as soon as it gets dirty.....in the past that has rarely been the case

I've driven now 2800 kilometers (1739 miles) with my Roomster in three weeks. No faults, no rattles etc.

I really like how Roomster feels in every road. In city it's handy and easy to use, in bigger speed it's very stable and nice to drive. Sitting comfort is good in front and back. You can drive for hundreds of kilometers per day without getting tired. Headlamps are very goods, my car has optional 2 * H7 instead of one H4 per side as standard. Engine (1.2 TSI 105) is very good, in normal use you can't hear it and there's surprisingy much power. DSG gearbox is also a joy.

As you may tell, I'm very happy. I'm already dreaming about next summer's trips with Roomster :)

Is that the new lighting for the post 2009 roomster? Mine has single H7 with rather poor lighting. Is the new reflector module H4 *2 or H7 *2?

Yeah, it's for post facelift model (model year is 2014). The optional headlamps are with 2 * H7 and I've chosen them.

Had the Yeti a couple of months now. The cargo space in the boot, (with spare wheel) is less, but still ample for me. The driving aspect is more relaxed and comfortable. I feel the bigger wheels smooth out the ****ing potholes somewhat. I also like the 140 bhp diesel, it has plenty of go.

But, it's all a step up in price. The MPG is about the same as the petrol Roomy.so a little more spent on fuel. But at the end of the day I'm old enough to say I don't care, I'm S.K.I.  So, I remain a Roomy. fan, but now a Yeti man.

Many thanks for posting, Merseadog.  It's good to hear from someone who has made the change from Roomy to Yeti.

I had to look it up.... but I don't have any K - and not a lot of I to S if I did!

I think when the time comes to replace my Roomy, the Yeti will win me over with its higher driving position and smoother ride.  But since retiring, I find a third vehicle is entering the equation:  A campervan - or Dormobile to you and me  :D.

Decisions.... decisions....
