Cycle carriers, roof bars, sources

Featured Replies

I've read loads about cycle carriers, roof bars, Thule racks, etc. etc., my head's spinning and am thinking on balance maybe the Skoda solution of roof-bars and rack is the best idea. Saves rigging up electrics and securing the bike with bungee cords.

The Skoda pricing on the roof bars (£215) and rack (£90) probably plus VAT seems rather steep. In another thread I found a dealer selling Seat Mii accessories and could get both items for £247 inc VAT and delivery.

Are the roof bars easy to fit? Easy enough to take off in the winter months? What about lifting a mountain bike onto a car roof? How easy is that?

Anyone know of a cheaper source? What about alternative roof-bars? They've got to look good on my new car (which I haven't even got yet, lol).

Lots of questions. Cheers guys.

Hi scgf

Have a look at these Thule wing bars Cost me about£170 if I remember right. Easy to fit on and off very quickly.sesyra6e.jpgzy4u2e6y.jpg

I think they look pretty good IMHO

Cheers Mick. Just priced it all up. The Thule roof bars and cycle carrier would cost me £246.90, the Seat Mii roof bars and cycle carrier would cost £247.28 - both prices include delivery. Think I might go for the official item.

Not much difference in price then, I already had the bars and foot pack so it just cost me £30 for the fixing kit so it was a no brainer for me :)
