Voracious vRS: first pictures

29 July 2005

Skoda has revealed the first pictures of its hot new Octavia vRS hatchback and estate, due to arrive in UK showrooms at the end of this year.

The new vRS will become the fastest and most powerful production car in Skoda

Cheaper than the Sport, somehow I think not (unless they delete the Sport or drop its price).

I would be suprised to see it so low. If they really are going to be 15k, i can see a lot more Skoda drivers in the not too distant future :)

So the flagship VRs is going to be cheaper than the Elegance with a 2.0 TDI 140??

they would sell more vRS's than anything at that price

Stop Press: WhatCar in "Writes ****e" shocker.

My thoughts exactly but seriously, how can a respected automotive magazine suggest what we all agree is a completely unrealistic price? They are supposed to be the experts, not us!! It makes you wonder who they have working for them.

Prices quoted in last weeks Auto Express expected to be

IIRC, a fabia in elegance trim costs more than the fabia vRS and that's with the lower-spec PD100 engine

Newsflash.......What Car have backed up their claim Skoda are charging 15k for the new Octy II vRS.

They say Skoda have acheived this by carefully controlling the comfort specifications. They have omitted the radio, airbags, electric windows and all interior trim. Only the driver's door actually opens but that doesn't matter as there's only a seat for the driver (heated leather). There's also a rumour that the foglights will be painted onto the car

Car mags always get price wrong. They convert the european price, or without taxes price. How can it be less that the sport? I'm expecting the Vrs to be about

Autocar today said 16.5 but I agree it must be more than that.

They also had an article saying wait until March for the new Leon Cupra R with 237bhp (engine sourced from the A4 DTM no doubt). I wonder if that will be more than the GTi?

Well they actually said under 17k for the vRS and summer for the LCR.

since when has the vRS been the flagship model??

its just the sporty one.

if you look at other companies like vauxhall and ford have 'normal' models costing more than the sports variants

I agree and, if I remember correctly, on the old Octy the 4x4 and the Elegance versions were more expensive than the RS :) . 15k does sound very low - although would sell like hot cakes at that price :D

I think what car has guessed the price of the new vRS Octavia based on the existing price of the out going model, which they quite rightly state as just under

maybe the magazines are right. skoda maybe aims for the fleet and hire market. the old vrs was on the fleet list but often never offered as it was origanaly a bit expensive (for them) or they might be stacking them high selling them cheap to give one huge push to get rid of the old skoda image!

Reckon the only way to get rid of the old image is not to sell them too cheap.

I still reckon 17-17.5k....this falls in line with the new Octy pricing and how the previous RS was priced and aligned in the range.

I reckon there will be some miffed sport owners thinking what they could of had for just a bit more and with a bit of patience. Can't see it breaking
