air con problem

Featured Replies

hi, guys.

i'm having a WEIRDEST problem with my air-con (it's not climatronix).

the recirculation button ( the one on the left of the A/C) doesnt remember it's position. when i start the car in the morning it's ALWAYS off, doesnt matter the position i left it. also, when i press it the recirculation remains on for a few minutes and then turns itself off... it takes 5/6 presses to set it permanently off...

has anyone seen such a weird behavior? is it something that can be fixed(reprogrammed) with a vag-com or is it a mechanical problem ?

any ideas ?

A VAG-COM link-up will show you any fault codes it has logged. Believe there was a post recently by Ross (in Ask A Tech) about air con fault codes and he explained how to reset the motors.....

Chris

Mine used to turn itself off for no reason as well and just recently its completely stopped working. I'm going to wait until my next service to get it checked out as I don't use it much anyway.

I believe the recirculate button is only meant to operate for a short period, and the setting then resets. Its meant to be off, and should only be used to quickly cool a car interior using the a/c or to stop nasty smells entering the cabin. It should not be used for long periods as you will build up stale air in the interior and this can affect the health of you and your passengers.

Yep mine resets off as well... also it doesnt work in some positions the air flow is directed can;t remember which.

Also... notice how it switches on when you reverse stop you been suffocated by fumes... clever car!!

mine never stays on when u start ur car up again...dont think they are meant to though.

I'm pleased that this was mentioned. I have found that I'll switch it on, and after about a minute it'll switch off, then I'll press the button and it'll take about 5 seconds before it decides to switch on, and then again after about a minute it'll just switch off.

So, I'm going to wait for the next service and mention it then (although am tempted to part ex and buy a new one)

More than likely due to a motor fault for the flap.

Fault code check will verify this. May be cured by resetting the motors.

Took my Furby to the service, they've checked it and told me the circulation motor needs replacement - (about 220 euro including labor).

But - it seems like the problem was fixed. I think they recalibrated the motors while checking. Lucky me :)

I wonder if recalibration will fix the problem if it appears again.....

Hi I have the same problem with my Fabia as you had. My recirculation button works for a few seconds, after which it turns off by itself. When I press it again, it turns on after about 5 seconds and turns off again after a few seconds.

Besides that, my air conditioner has also turned on by itself twice, although the "AC" light didn't come on and although I didn't press the "AC" button. I noticed that it turned itself on because the air coming through the vents was very cold and besides that, the idle revs were around 1050rpm vis-a-vis the usual 800rpm or 850rpm when the air conditioner is off.

Can you please guide me through this problem since you've had somewhat similar issues to tackle.

Thanks.

the air-con will come on automatilcally when you start the engine if the 'air direction' thing is twisted to the windscreen to de-mist... this is to help de-mist the windscreen.... (air-con dries the air, removes the moisture, if used with the heater, de-mists quicker..)

I know this may not be related to your problems, but is worth knowing....

To tell you the truth I'm not sure if it was set to demist. It could be that the know was set to half way between "windscreen" and "face vents" (i.e. pointing at 2 o'clock sort of) - so that could (hopefully) be the case...
