Tesla model S

Featured Replies

Going to have a look at the Tesla Model S in a couple of weeks and will try and get some pics/vids while there. Have spent a bit of time lately looking at the state of the EV market and the next 5 years should bring about some interesting changes if the battery tech advances come to fruition.

Anyone already had a go in a tesla?

Yes, as per my thread above.

Too much hype surrounding it IMO.

Very advanced car, but I spend my time inside and the interior is poor for the cost.

Maybe most people don't see it because they are fixated on the 17" touchscreen.

I had a deposit down for a year, have asked for it back.

Once you get past the instant acceleration which shocks people (I have an EV so expected it) it's quick but ultimately heavy and a bit lifeless to drive.

IMO. :)

Remember the test cars are usually the 80kWh Performance Plus cars too, so with a few essential extras like the tech pack you are knocking on the door of £90,000... And it feels like a £30,000 BMW/Merc/Audi inside other than the fancy screens.

Hi Richard

had a good read through your post, very informative :D  I have no intention of getting one, just keen to find out more about the tech and have a go.  As much as we are petrolheads (dieselheads?) electric WILL one day be it!  For a commuter (50miles tops?) that can charge at work it is a no brainer even with the current crop of vehicles as you can drive more or less for free (a.t.m. :D),  As the longer range options start to appear and the fast charging infrastructure improves we will see more salesmen driving them as the P11D is 0% for the next 2 years then up to 5% iirc (even the Tesla fully specced at £90k would be £4500Benefit).  If you switch to Ecotricity for your household gas/electric you can currently charge for free at any of their charging points (lots of services and Ikea)  OBVIOUSLY the tax man will catch up eventually and find a way of taxing vehicles per mile driven but till then it helps drive the adoption much like LPG except that people were wary of "Conversions" whereas buying an EV from a main dealer is a different experience. (worse imo having had three cars converted :D)

For me it all boils down to the cost per mile. on LPG in The Skip I am around the 9-13ppm mark but thats because its bought and paid for and as long as it keeps going its good.   I know the interior is not going to be anywhere near the Lexus, as even at ten years old that thing still feels like a very nice place to be :D
