SmartCam in car camera - anyone used one?

Featured Replies

I had a close call today, nosing out around a bus when an old guy came through the gap at a lunatic speed. If I hadn't been able to edge over a metre he would have totalled us. Been thinking about a cam for a while and I know you gets what you pays.

Today compact cameras are as cheap as chips and professional photographers are using phone cams. Is this camera http://www.onlycarcameras.co.uk/shop/in-car-cameras/smartcam-2-in-car-camera-1086570.html?gclid=CJ3J54jO8bsCFUzHtAod_TIAvg going to. E any good - anyone tried one?

I have front and rear facing Blackvue cameras.  I am hoping they are never actually needed for this kind of thing, and they just remain as handy trackday video devices. :D

There is a significant difference in price between SmartCam and BlackVue.  Remember to check the forum sponsor at http://www.smartcamdirect.com/smartcam_camera.php , though they seem to be a couple of pounds dearer.  Call for forum discount? - I don't know.

Test footage on the link shows the drivers aversion to using the nearside lane, oh dear.

Thanks for that.I originally picked the ad up for the SaertCam off the forum, and, if I buy that's where I'll go. Obviously the BlackVue is better kit but ideally I would drive a new Range Rover but the Superb does what I need at a price I can (almost) afford :-).

I want to try and find out if there are major problems with the lower cost gear.
