Help deciphering my first VCDS-Lite autoscan

Featured Replies

Hello folks. I've just done my first VCDS-Lite autoscan with a registered version of the software on my 1U Octavia vRS. There's a few things on there I don't understand, so was hoping someone could give me a few pointers. Here goes:

Code 18010 for the engine is because the battery went flat a few months back, so I've cleared that one.

Comms errors for the airbag module is a bit worrying. I have Golf Recaros in the car, so maybe this has something to do with it?

For the instruments, the radio has been replaced with an aftermarket once, hence the the no communications message. Is the 01314 code possibly due to the fact that I had my ECU map reflashed not long ago?

Finally, what are the random and corrupt characters for regarding the central convenience module? Is this central locking, electric windows etc.? As far as I know, I have noticed no major faults with these systems. The only minor niggles is that I can sometimes hear the boot solenoid clicking if I've manually unlocked the doors after the anti-hijack has cut in and the front window buttons on the driver's control panel don't work as I expected.

Cheers for any help. :)

I would just clear all of them an see which return after its been driven for a while, they all could be old and related to battery replacement.

The corrupt characters are because the lead you are using is having difficulty speaking to the ECU, so you get garbage characters back. HVAC is another one with a comms error, this ECU is very difficult to connect to with anything other than a Ross-Tech cable.

Thanks for that. I'll clear the codes and see what comes back in a few weeks. I am using a cheapo eBay cable, so I can't expect it to perform like a Ross-Tech one.

How can you tell that I'm getting comms errors with my HVAC? I assumed that it all tested OK as it comes back with no faults found.
