Heads Up

Featured Replies

Just a heads up, Mytyres seems to be cheap atm for Federal 595 RS-R's (well in 225/45/17 atleast).

£74.30 each (£297.20 for 4) delivered.

Thats nearly £100 cheaper than Camskill who are the next cheapest I found (they are £95 a corner in the same size + delivery).

That is a good price.

I ordered mine from Camskill last week.  Same size. :giggle:

Oooh, £71.90 in 215/40 R17 my favourite size.... Damn that is tempting.

@ £530 on Ebay, methinks I am buying 4!

and... ORDERED!  £287 delivered, spank you very much!    (and cheers to Mr Cossie1 for the hint too!)

I have ordered 4, even though I don't really need them yet, for that price I can't turn them down, as when I need them, they will either be unavailable again, or £100+ per corner.

Noooooo, must not be tempted.

My problem will be choosing whether to use the RS-Rs or the Kumho V70 now though haha!

You going for Federal Richard?   I found them to be good on the first use and then once they have been hot and cooled they seemed to be better again.

They do like to squeal a bit too.  :o

Well I know I have the medium V70's but I am serious unimpressed with the pair I have.

I really hope the RS-R's last better (and grip better).

That's OK, so do my passengers. ;)

Sounds like they need a heat cycle like the 888s to get the best from them.

I'll be taking the V70s to Oulton Park as are hard compound so very durable.  I will probably break in the RS-Rs at Combe.

I have a bit of an issue with rims though.  Currently I have

OZ Superleggeras - Pair of Maxxis and Pair of T1-R

TD Pro Race 3 - 4 decent Kumho V70s

VW Evolo wheels - currently have wrong sized randoms on....

So really, I need the Maxxis & T1-R on the Evolos, and the RS-Rs on the Superleggeras, as they are much better rims for track....  Hmmmm.  That will be a challenge for my local tyre place.  Also a challenge for me as I will need to put the car on the TD Pro Race 3s and then somehow fit 8 rims and 4 tyres in my car. :D

Yes I will be taking the remains of my v70's (going to spin them on the rims, so move the worst one to the drivers side) and carry on with the R888's on the rear as there still as good as the day I bought them, at oulton.

Then I will have the RS-R's fitted for combe to put some heat through them, before I drive to the ring.

Leave 4 on your car Jason and put four in the boot and get them swapped about at the tyre house?

I like turning up at my local tyre place with everything ready and no need to actually jack my car up :D

Someone on another forum has mentioned apparently these are "EU Spec" tyres and the "UK Spec" tyres are much better?  I have no idea what to make of that to be honest.  Surely an RS-R is an RS-R unless you're unlucky enough to get China linglong knock offs??

Well after a quick google, it seems this originates on an mx5 forum and was posted by a tyre dealer, that just so happens to sell 595rs-r's.

But he charges £127.20 for 225/45/17's compared to £74.30 from mytyres.

Make of that what you will.

Also looking on Federals own website they do appear to list the 595rs-r as an eu spec and a global spec.

But when you look at the pdf, there is no differences other than EU spec have extra markings on the sidewall, to be EU compliant.

I find it hard to believe that Federal make a different tyre for each market, chances are they only change the paperwork! BUT as you found it on a forum then it must be true  :giggle:

So, heres one for you guys, I am sure our Pasty man will be booking a how fast for late May or early June, so when he does I am thinking we do the event on ling long tyres instead of tyres with grip, should be loads of fun and also a bit scary at the same time, anyone up for it?

Haha, only when someone makes a suggestion and you just try it to 'see what happens'.... :)
